Scion TC Prospective buyers: DO NOT get the fog light kit...
Sure it may look good and give you a little bit more light on the road, but these things will break easily if anything hits the glass. This means any pebble or piece of plastic flying around on the freeway WILL break your foglight and the replacement is not cheap. This is a DEALER ONLY part, so oem equipment shops dont carry it and cannot order it. Ebay lights do not look like factory and wont match your other foglight. The dealer price for ONE foglight is $120-150. This is a total ripoff so stay away.
umm... i have had my tC for over a year, and have not had any issues. i've driven many places, and will be driving up to SF this weekend. I have had little rocks, medium rocks hit them with no issue. just kinda weird that you would make a post about that.
I agree with the others. I love the look of the fog lights and the added illumination they provide. I will worry about the replacement costs if and when that happens. So to anyone considering them, I say go for it!
I have had two broken. And you will too if a rock hits just about ANY fog kit out there. Fogs are in the worst place ever for getting hit by road debris. It is just the nature of fogs on lower vehicles. The first one was hit by a rock about half the size of a golf ball, the second I think was vandalism.. but not sure. I dont know for a fact when it happened. Dont feel bad, a cone at autox will knock bmw fogs (wanna talk expensive?) out of the bumper completely. I have seen the same beamer lose two this summer alone :D
TRDsparks has been selling them for 2 years now, and they are the oem fogs, you dont have to buy them at a dealer. Get yourself some rockblocker and greatly reduce the chance of this. You would be suprised what a little padding like that will do to keep sharp rocks from cracking the lens.

I've had mine on the car since about 3 days after purchase... so, almost two and a half years. The pass. side lens even took the skinny end of a 2x4 on the freeway and stayed in one piece. That 2x4's partner took the pass. side mirror apart like Legos, but that's a different story.

I hate rocks and gravel...I've had my tC since 11/04 in Nebraska, where there is lots of gravel, especially in winter. My p/s OEM fog fell victim to a rock, and is cracked across its face, but it never took on any condensation and never went out. I put yellow vinyl covers over them after the fact and they still work to this day. I put the same thick vinyl covers on my headlights and if you look hard enough, they have taken a beating as well...only wish I protected the hood and bumper, `cause they are all f'd up from rock chips
I actually had a half melted oil cap off an F-150 hit my lower grille on the freeway. Knocked it right out and it sat there, with the oil cap and all, on the air diversion panels for a good 15 minutes before I got out and realized what happened. Lucky I got the VRD fogs and not the OEM ones, or I'd be jumpin on "screw the OEM fogs" boat.
