Short Shifter ploblems! HELP PLEASE!!!
A friend was helping me instal my short shifter and doing quite well. Once we were putting everything back together we broke a piece of the gearbox!
While putting back on the spring mechanism I don't think the spring was in the right position and the shifter didn't seem to move...it seemed kinda stuck. So he jiggled it a bit and I guess he applied too much force and broke this piece off.

My 1st question is...Does anyone know how critical this piece is because I'm driving around without it right now.
2nd...how do you suppose I put it back? Use a cement glue or a compound? Drill it back in with a small enough screw?
I hope someone out there knows what this piece is
....I'm scared.

I am not sure, however, since its made up of hard plastic, dont think compound would hold well. I am not sure which piece your talking about, but for the placement of the spring. Instructions says keep it in the same position, but when i took it apart, there is only one logical position so make sure you recheck that.
Right, I was thinking the same thing on the position. There is only one logical way to place it. It's just when we put it back I don't think it was positioned correctly in correspondece to the nubs. One of which I broke off, the one with the black rubber around it to be exact.
If you have the piece maybe try putting it back on with some epoxy. I have model airplane epoxy that dries as hard a plastic it may work. I think its a pretty important piece, if im thinking correctly from when i installed my SS the spring is what returns the shifter to the center or neutral position when its not in gear i think also provides some needed resistance. If all else fails id go to the dealer and see what they can do for you. My biggest problem with my install was i lost one of the clips that hold the linkage onto the bottom of the shift lever under my drivers seat and i had to pull my seat out to get it. Your problems a little bigger. Sorry im not much more help but i was just putting in my .02.

THanks for the heads up jay but I still haven't gotten around to it yet. I decided to glue it back into place with a hardening compound I got from my friend. The piece that broke off was only to hold the spring into position. I don't think there's much pressure applied to it from the spring so the compound should do it. The only bad thing i've noticed since the piece broke (which is not even that bad) is that when playing in neutral, the shifter slowly moves back to center. No biggie but I'm on it. Thanks for your help guys. As for that stock shift setup, thanks simplyscion. I may look into that.
Thats what i meant the piece holds the spring and the spring makes the shifter snap back to neutral it may also make shifting a little harder or sloppier not even really sure but glad to hear everything is sorta working out for you aslong as the piece isnt leaving the car un drivable.

thanks ssmtc. Yeah, it's not even that bad. It's not like it made the spring totally worthless, but It does feel a little different. Like you said, I'm just glad it's not keeping my car from driving.
