Default Silverstars on tC's

Does anyone have them on their tC's? Is it actually worth it (compared to HID's)? And how long does it usually last?

I've gone through several and like them. For some reason though, I only expect to get about 5-6 months out of the low beam bulbs though. I did the 9005-9006 mod on the last set. I can't tell that they are any brighter, but the bulbs seem to be lasting longer.

I dont have them, but I hear they dont last that long. I would go HID, the kit cost around 130, but cheaper in the long run. you wont replace the bulbs as often.

I ran them for about a year, but they kept burning out, I would skip them and go for HIDs, you will be happier in the end.

I've had mine for 8 months with the 9005 mod and nothing has burned out yet. All 4 are still doing fine.

you take a 9005 silverstar bulb ( for your highbeam) grind down the plastic tabs so it fits in the lowbeam socket, and there yah go. i ran it for about 5 months till one burnt out they were very bright

Yeah the lowbeams are supposed to use 9006 bulbs, but you can modify a 9005 highbeam bulb to fit into the 9006 lowbeam socket. Something like 30% more light output.

I just bought a pair of 8500k Eurodezigns for 25$ (http://www.eurodezigns.com/shop/detail.aspx?ID=93)

They have a lifetime warranty so if one burns out in 6 months, I pay the 7 bucks for s&h and get a new set.

You can use a dremel or something, but I did it with a plain old metal file. There is a DIY somewhere.

I've had the SilverStars and now Ultras in my tC for over a year now without any problems. We even put a set in my gf's Matrix and they have lasted just as long. (BTW-She has running daylights too.) About Ultras being brighter, they look more white than they do bright IMHO.

Also, when you switch out the bulbs be sure not to touch them with your bare hand. The oils and dirt on your hand(s) can cause them to burn out quicker. All I did was wipe the SilverStars down with a micro fiber cloth right before I put them into the housing. (I also did the 9005-to-9006 mod.) Like I said, so far zero problems.

Ive been using silverstar ultras for about 3 weeks now.

seems like theyve already started dimming and have grown weaker in light output since initial install.

they arent that bright. not much brighter than stock but are whiter.
during they day they still look yellow, at night they look like off white.

and brightness is nowhere near what I was expecting. was it worth the $50? not really. but hey, they are dot approved and street legal. and a noticeable mod compared to the yellow lights at night.

definately nowhere close to hid brightness, its very close to stock brightness.

not necessarily the dirt, its the oils from your fingers that weaken the glass when they get hot.

The Brightest bulbs ive ever used were blue xenons i got off ebay, lasted me over a year.

Ive used all types of "xenon" bulbs and silverstars and other brands. I did notice silverstars were the worst for bulb life! I like the 9005/9006 trick! Id try it but i just orderd my HID's (im sick of playing around with stupid bulbs that dont make a difference)
