Default So I called up a few paint shops

So I was thinking of finally switching my pedestal to the Kaminari spoiler, but of course I'd need to fill up the holes, so I called up a few specialist/shops on craigslist thinking they'd be give me down to earth quotes and stuff...WRONG.

One guy said because burgundy is expensive so it would be maybe $400 to fill up + paint 4 holes. lolllllllllllllllll

and rest of them quote somewhere around 200-300. Which I find it BS. To repaint the whole trunk would only cost $100-150...I guess I'll just buy some hole plugs and paint them and cover it ^^

well I guess like $100 for welding+labor on the holes?

Well you're paying for them to fill the holes for one thing. That might be easy, but it's not like it takes 5 minutes to do properly. Then you're paying for the whole trunk respray. I don't know about the "burgundy is expensive" bit... but it's not going to be cheap either way.

Most of them didn't say repaint the whole trunk, I assume it's just the top part of the hatch, either one I think I'll just go with fast caps if I decide to switch spoilers..don't know how much it would cost to repaint a Kaminari either..ahh lol

This sounds about right. Most Evo guys pay $400-500 to fill in the holes after they remove the stock wing.

That's probably because they simply drive an EVO and they can over charge lol

Body work is body work, especially when you're talking about two relatively cheap cars.

another thing you could do is find someone with the same color car and do a hatch swap and get one with no holes, that way all you have to do is paint the wing and install.

That price acctually sounds about right. They have to repaint the whole trunk so that it can match the rest of the car. Sounds fair enough though. Do they guarantee their work?

QFT.

Go cheap out and do it for $200. Don't come crying when you have overspray everywhere, orange peel everywhere, and the cheap paint that you paid for is fading after 1 month. Quality materials ALONE, will cost $200-300.

Sounds about right man, I just did a bunch of bodywork on my civic and the paint and clearcoat came out to 600 alone, not including to actually get it painted, better to pay for good paint than have it fade on you in a month like he said.

If it's any cheaper than that they're going to bondo and spray it and call it a day.

If you want them to do a quality job (as in welding plates over the holes, sanding it down, and respraying the whole hatch), then that's the price you're looking at.

That said, I have my trunk holes filled and repainted, cracked bumper fixed and repainted, and sideskirt holes re-molded with polyurethane and repainted for $790, but that's because I knew someone.

You get what you pay for.

Chill the f out ya? did I say I was gonna go with a $200 paint job? I was simply very curious about the prices because I've never had any sort of paint jobs?

I think he's completely "chill", he's just stating a point that most people don't think about.

I don't understand what you're getting at with that comment, but if you're going to ask for the forum's help, try not to be a ____ just because you don't get the answer you want to hear.

Not trying to be a dick but in my opinion his words shows hostility, pointing fingers literately. Again, I never said I was going for a $200 paint job did I? I was only surprised by the quotes given to me, consider how quotes over the phone never really come close to "out of door" price.
