Someone broke into my car and for who the hell knows messed up my roof!
So I had class today in the evening, go through my routine of closing my roof and locking my car. After I get out of school I notice my roof is in the fully open position, and I rush to my cars side. I find some of my belongings thrown on the floor and the car looks like it was searched. I had nothing valuable in my car but as I began to close the roof, I had a crunch and snap. I WAS SO F@#$%^% P$%^ED that whoever broke into my car BROKE MY ROOF.
Sorry for the long rant, but I want to know
- what steps I should take now,
- if I should go to the dealer and ask if the repairs would fall under warranty,
- and if me wanting to actually catch and hurt this person is a bad thing

I am sure of it, because I make it a habit of closing it. I was looking closer inside the car and saw some wiring sticking out from under the steering wheel, and I feel as if he(or they) were actually trying to steal it. I usually park my car on top of the parking structure so as to not get door dinged, but in doing this I severely isolate my car from passerbys.

Correct, warranty would not cover this, wouldn't even be sure there are any first gen tC's with much of their 3/36k warranty left.
Call your insurance company, this is a comp loss for attempted theft. You should file the police report too.

Insurance will cover the damage to the vehicle itself as it is attempted theft/vandalism/malicious mischief etc minus whatever his applicable deductible is. It will not cover removable items that were not semi-permanently attached to the vehicle like a portable electronic devices such as GPS, iPods and cellphones, or any valuables in the vehicle itself.

Call your insurance company, ask them to explain why they won't cover the damaged sun roof and to send you a partial denial letter, then call your state's department of insurance and file a complaint. The only way they can properly deny it is if they can prove the damage to the sunroof is unrelated to the claim.
If the sunroof is the point of entry into the vehicle and was damaged in this loss by the responsible party illegaly entering your vehicle, it is part of the loss.
