Default Sticky Hatch question

Well it finally broke. The plastic piece with my tag on it finally snapped thanks to the guy at the car wash. I didn't make a big deal because I knew it was hanging on by a thread. I did purchase a new one on the Bay and installed with no problems, but here is the problem.

My hatch always seems to stick when I push the button. The only way to open it is to push the button and pull up. Now of course this is how I snapped it in the first place over a year ago, so I need to correct the sticky hatch problem before somebody else rips the new piece off. The guy at the dealer said to make sure the black foam is clear of any debris, which it is, so I am stumped as to what is making it stick.

I have had my car for 3 years and forget if the hatch is supposed to pop up a bit after hitting the button. If it is maybe I need new shocks.

I've had the same problem since shortly after i got my tc brand new back in nov 2006...But i do notice that the times that its the worst is when the trim gets pulled up with the hatch....I don't believe that it's suppose to pop up any when you hit the button but can't tell you forsure

I meant guys at the car wash, car mechs, etc. Other people are clueless.

I still think my hatch popped up a little after pressing the button. I'm curious at what point does your hatch lift up by itself? Mine has to be open a good 2 feet or so for it to open by itself.

I think its time for shocks.

spray some silicone (in the rattle can) around the edges of the inside where the weather stripping meets the paint. The factory paint really sticks to the weather stripping for some reason. Mine broke off from the sun out here in FL, it heated the plastic up so much that it just became brittle and snapped. Luckily my brakets were intact so I just used JB weld to fix it. Works great
