Silverstars are a great DOT legal option, probably the best DOT friendly option out there...

which silverstar?

Osram's or its subsidiary, Sylvania?

I had the Osram Silverstars, and it was way *brighter*...if you compare that to the sylvania silverstars, the sylvania will be *whiter* due to that tinge of blue.

there is a *difference* between the two silverstars...

Generally, Silverstars are Sylvania... as OSRAM are really not widely available at US stores....

I love the OSRAM bulbs, as they are brighter, but always have to order them online, where-as I can pick up sylvania's at almost any local store.

SS's are great bulbs.
If you're into blue/violet bulbs, the GP Thunders are nice and don't fry wires.
If you want LIGHT, try the SS's.

Huh? When I changed my Hi's & Low's to SilverStars, I had no problems. Simple Plug-N-Play. Took all of about 15 minutes for all 4 lights. One of the easiest mods I have done to my tC. Did anybody else have a different connector on their install? Maybe I have different SilverStar bulbs than you? 9006 = Low Beams. 9005 = High Beams. I think that's right. The good ol' Capt. & Coke is kickin' in!

I had silverstars and threw them away. They seem dimmer than the factory bulbs. I bought gp thunder 8500k high wattage bulbs and these bulbs are great. I paid 16.99 per set and these are the closest bulbs I have found to HID. They a 100% legal and dot approved. These bulbs will not harm your factory harness either. They have a ion coating that helps prolong the life of the bulb even if you touch the glass before installing it. Definately work the money! www.globalpremier.com has these.

^^^ I bought those, but in the end, I opted for normal wattage as I was not going to buy new harnesses...sorry, I know you told me yours were fine, but I chickened out!
They are nice bulbs though, but standards are not as bright as stock, or IMO, the Silverstars.
So, I have three sets of bulbs which means I keep spares in my trunk

There are two versions of the 9006 and 9005 bulbs. One says ST at the end and the other says XS.

From the Sylvania sight:

9006XS SilverStar Headlight
High Performance Halogen Headlight - Single filament for low beam -
XS = Straight Base, same performance as the 9006ST - part number: 9006XS ST

9006ST SilverStar Headlight
High Performance Halogen Headlight - Single filament for low beam - part number: 9006ST (angled base)

These bulbs are designed not to mess up your harness. I had bulbs 5 years ago that melted my headlight plugs. They started showing sings after a month. I have been using these bulbs for 6months no signs of any issues with the gp thunder 8500k high wattage bulbs. I checked my plugs and harness and they are fine. You have nothing to worry about.

The problem I have with "don't worry, it won't fry your harness" is that I've emailed every one of these sellers that say this and ask "will you replace my harness if it does fry it" and NOBODY ever replies!
If someone says it, it means squat (not talking about you) unless they back it up.
I might try it down the road - I just don't want to be ordering and installing a new harness on my new car!
