tint installation: How to remove rear view mirror
I recents had tint installed on my tC. I asked the installer to allow the front strip to come down about 3-4 inches ( I live in Florida, so I like to hide from the sun =).
I was bothered when he told me that he could only come down as far as the top of the rear view mirror (it was in the way, i guess). This would only give me an inch or two..
After playing with the base of the mirror for a few seconds I realized that YOU CAN REMOVE IT. Needless to say I now have my full front strip..
Herz how:
(this is from memory, so bear with me, either way, it's very easy)
1. The base of the mirror has a square plastic cover where it meets the glass. It can be removed by hand, dont remember the exact procedure, but just squeeze and wiggle it off. It lifts away and you can slide it up the shaft, towards the mirror.
2. Underneath you will find a clip holding the mirror to the metal "block" that is glued to the glass. Squeeze (or lift) this clip while sliding the mirror assembly up (toward the roof) and it's off!.
You should have the mirror assemble in hand, and just the small metal block left attached to the glass.. The installer can easily place the stip over the block and cut around it after..
I've taken apart several parts of my car already, including installed my s-techs myself and I love the way everything comes apart pretty easily.

hmmm... u didn't have to do that. if yer tinter was any good he could've worked around it and made a cutout for it first. thats wut the guy did for mine... turned out perfect.
Its not necessary, but good to know you can.. especially if you ever have to re-attach your mirror to the glass.. you can re-glue the small metal holder to the glass without the mirror, let it dry , then hang the mirror.
