Taking body panels off is not fun.....
And yes, they open to the mid point, then stop and go up identically to the VDI kit... can't tell the difference at all, and I looked closely at both prior to getting these...

They look pretty solid. Nice big chunks of metal to attach to the car and door. Do you have an intake on your car? It looks like an intake tube in the second pic coming through the side of the car above the tire. What intake is it?

It does add some weight for sure.... They're insanely solid and from JTAutostyle.com - It's a socal shop that has some great stuff and a lot of experience in the vertical door field.
I caught note of them at the Scion Evolution Kickoff Show in LA and saw them on a couple rides down there and liked the quality...
It's "Bolt-On"... but pushing it with that description. there is a ton of things to Un-bolt just to get to the place where you can bolt it on, plus having to pop off door panels and remove welded brackets and such... it's a little more destruction than most would like to undertake...
It took me 4 and a half hours just to get to that point, but the next door should go faster... I'd think it'd take about 6 hours to do this if you knew what you were doing and the tricks to do it right.

Thanks for the link and good luck on the install. From the looks of it, those hinges look pretty sturdy and a nice price, too. Thinking about getting a set for myself now.
Couple questions though, just for a heads up on install.. Did you have to remove the door panel to remove bolts off of the door? And, do the shocks hold up well? Everything looks pretty straight forward and easy to DYI as far as the install goes. Anyways, thanks for the link again and the pictures. Keep us updated.

The shocks are great and appear to be of really great quality... even so, replacements are resonably priced online, from what I can see... if that were ever the case.
And yes, you'll have to pop the door panel off for sure... that added a good 30 minutes to last night cause I thought I could do it without.... YOU CAN'T. You have to free up a good amount of wiring length and the only way to do it is to get inside the door and unclip the wiring holders in there to free up some much needed inches, PLUS - The Door "Holder" that allows the door to go out only so much is bracketed from the inside of the door, so you have to open that up to pull the bracket out, once you undo it...

I'm going with a different look and since I got these for free.... I couldn't turn them down. My idea is almost a transformer type idea.... looks plain, but really isn't.
Everything from the outside appears pretty clean/normal but once you open up the hood/trunk/doors, it all changes... almost a transformer Idea. I'm also going to retint the windows much darker, so you can't see the interior (Roll Bar/Racing Seats) too much from the outside. Everything on the inside is hidden already, from the Nitrous to the SAFC-II... which you can't see from the outside now...
I always fight the mix of both worlds, so I like to have and try different mixes to see how it'll turn out.
I'll have to see...

Seeing you do everything to your car makes me feel better about me and my hubby doing stuff to ours like installing our struts/springs today...
