Default TYC + OEM TAILS= DUH!

So, I know not everyone loves the LED tails available currently, here's a possible solution. I want red taillights, but really want LEDs, so I think we can have the best of both worlds with a small mod. The setup in regards to bulb location is the same on both tails, including the reverse light, so why not bake an OEM and a TYC, remove the outer lenses, and put the red lens over the TYC tail. By swapping lenses, you get rid of the amber/clear area that doesn't look good on some colors IMO, and you don't have to deal with overlays or tints. I don't see why no one has tried or thought of this yet, but I want to get some input before I try this. So post up people! Whatcha think?

The red tail light cover for the OEM light, has a clear circle portion for the reverse light. The TYC tails have a rectangular reverse light...

i think it would probably look like this...

That sure looks like something you photoshopped cali...yes I know that the reverse lights are different shaped but they seem to be in the same location and unless your a dee dee dee with your face on the light, you probably wouldn't be able to tell. IMO due to the black border around the TYC tails, any overlay other than the red/w clear brake light will end up looking like your face.

hey.. that's someone's avatar on here... hahaha...
cali didn't photoshop that billman...

but yeah... i don't think it's going to work so well with that reverse light cutout in the oem taillights... it's circular.... and tyc rectangular... it'll be too weird...

seriously.. in my opinion... painting or overlaying the tyc's requires less work than baking and taking apart shiet..

You can't bake your taillights, only way is bust out a dremel and cut around the back of housing

Yeah I think baking is for the headlights only. This seems like way too much trouble and the overlay would be way more worth it in EVERYONES opinion. Nice idea though. I was excited when I clicked on the link...

you can't melt the circuit board at 225 degrees...by the time the circuit boards melt, you have a bigger problem at hand.

Yeah, these are the kinds of ideas I come up with after a 10 hour work day.
I'd like to see a DIY from Jolton once he finishes his g35 style tails especially if he mods the signal and reverse lights too. I'll just wait for those aftermarket projector headlights and tails to come out...

with regards to the Anzo taillights, though i have seen the Anzo projector headlights and a led taillights in person, i have yet to hear of them planning to manufacture or release them to the public.

i do hope they do, but we might be better off wishing and waiting that some other company come up with something. i've learned that sometimes you have to give your hopes up. wasting your time wishing and waiting is pointless in some matters.

My thoughts exactly. I think TYC with a full red overlay would look 100x better than the current look.

Someone here already did it to their TYCs. He covered all but the reverse spot, it looked tight. I would get them and do a dark candy red or something will look good..

I'm still debating what to do with my TYC's. They actually look pretty nice on a BCP as is...
