Underbody Air Dam
On my TC the underbody air dam that hooks to my front bumper got damaged. Because it got damaged, it would randomly fall a little bit, causing air to get into my engine compartment pushing the air dam down even more. Yesterday it got so bad that I can't fix it. Is this something that is absolutely needed? can I remove it safely. I don't think that flimsy plastic would hold anything in place. It is more of a problem than it's worth. Can it be removed?
are you talking about all of the plastic underneath the car? if so quite a few people go without; or if you want to keep it, best bet is drill some holes and use zipties to connect it to hold it
It isn't so much of an aerodynamic devices as it is a mud guard. It helps to keep rocks, dirt and debris in general from flying up into the engine bay. Is it needed? Well that is up to you. Personally, I have gone with and with out them in the past with no real problems. But it does simply give a little added security as far as keeping things from hitting the egine and what not. New holes and zip ties ftw.
Well, yesterday I took off the middle 2 pieces(those are what was scraping), so i could get home. Was busy last night and came back to work this morning. While pulling into the parking lot at work my driver side wheel well plastic thing actually RIPPED off because the the wheel well has a thing that sticks out and catches air... :-\. This is just sad. My car has been fine for the 5.5 years i've owned it. then all of this happens in 36 hours. I don't even know if i should try to replace the wheel well plastic, not sure if it is repairable. I only picked up the pieces and went into work.
I've been fighting with these liners for a couple years now. I purchased brand new fender liners from the dealer and after a year they're all ripped up too. I've just gotten rid of everything for now....
