Default VIS Carbon Fiber Hood questions

Ok so I bought a VIS carbon fiber hood for my TC and from everything Ive seen, it's the best one on the market as far as quality and durability. My question is, Ive been told by a couple people that I need to have hood pins drilled in so that I don't risk having it flip up or "blowback" at high speeds. The VIS website says that the latch is just as strong as the OEM latch so do I really need to do this? I don't really want to because I dont like that look and it seems like a hassle, but at the same time I dont want to lose an expensive hood or have a wreck.

Also Ive heard I should consider getting a clear-coat put on it, but it's already got UV-resistant material on it. Anyways, I need some opinions!

i didnt use hood pins on my VIS hood. i wouldnt worry about it. just make sure it latches properly. you may have to adjust the latch (loosen the bolts that holds the latch to the radiator support).

my VIS hood faded and cracked really bad from the sun. i'd get it clear coated if its gonna get alot of direct sunlight.

my friend has a VIS hood and the carbon fiber has started to turn yellow. he doesnt even put it in the sun a lot. my seibon hood has been in the sun almost everyday for 2 years and no problems with the clearcoat yet.

about the hood pins too, no you wont need them. theyre made pretty strong. cheaper branded hoods you might have to get pins though.

I've got a VIS and had the car over 120 mph with no flipping up! In regards to the UV protection, I had mine painted with a black candy clear coat along with some blizzard white pearl to match the RS3 paint. Had it for about 8 months now that way in the sun for 6 hours a day without any discoloration at all. Fitment and quality was the best my body shop guy had seen. I love how you can still put the heat shield in from the stock hood.
