I know the stock intake was designed to have a whistle to replicate a modest CAI.... I shouldn't seem like grinding though.

could the wind noise be reference to this thread, https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=170562

Lets brainstorm together to confirm this.

Sounds like this thread is what everybody is talking about. I first noticed the whistle last summer, but I only get it on warm to hot days and only when its windy. I may try this solution this weekend when I have some time and post back later. As far as it being due to a CAI, i started hearing the wistle before AND after I got my CAI so I don't think that could be the problem.

its not gonna because of an intake, stock or otherwise - the amount of air an intake sucks in is proportionate to the amount of gas you give it.
i have a similar problem and i hear it all the time, i have a cai and exhaust....

tried to remove that thing and it didn't work, and Toyota can't fix it because they are not allowed to test drive 70+ miles and hour.

I have a whistle with my tC. It comes around 70 mph. I think that it is the windshield though, b/c if you push up on the windshield right at the top left corner the sound goes away. I took it to the dealership and they told me to get my windshield replaced and then come back. arggg. I think that State Farm will replace one for free a year, but now I have to set up an appointment and everything. Yall might want to try pushing on your windshield first to see if the sound goes away.

if it makes you feel any better, I have the sound too, but I dont really care much. Mine is at the same speed (around 80, at about 4K RPM)

Im gonna be trying to trace it down, but it seems like its coming from around the fuse panel drivers side.

mines is around the driver side area aswell, so what i am thinking is the air filter/intake area.

I have a whistling noise that comes up at about 65 - 75 mph.. I live in colorado and haven't heard the noise til this summer (it's been hotter this summer than the past 2 years i've had the car). It's my sunroof.. the whistle goes away when i crack it more (but i get the loud noise of air after that).

I have a CAI.. it doesn't whistle at any speed.. only sucks in air, and a lot of it.

if you're going to go CAI.. i recommend the AEM. Worth the money and i've had 4 or 5 people ask if I'm turboed.. just from the sound alone (no it doesn't make you that fast.. but the throttle response and accel is slightly noticeably better)

If you're letting off the gas, the last thing that would be making an increasingly louder sound would be the intake.. since it's suction has slowed, since you're no longer on the accelerator...
