Wind Deflector
I have read with great interest the posts regarding the shattering of the glass wind deflector and moon roof. I have posted in the previous thread my thoughts and suspicions regarding this issue. I now RETRACT my previous statement that the wind defector be made of a different material. I have just had some time to actually investigate its composition and in doing so have discovered one salient point missed in these posts/discussions. **When driving at speeds over 50 mph the defector MOVESdownward on it's hinges and at 100mph is almost FLAT**. In light of this "discovery" I think we can put to rest the concerns about driving with it open at speeds over 45mph.
Now as for the moon roof itself flexing violently while driving, I will check on that today. If that is the case, there would be a concern in that tempered safety glass does not do well under tension/torsion. Let us not forget another force that may act upon it...sypathetic vibrations (harmonics) as when a wine glass or a bridge shatters caused by hitting and sustaining it's exact sypathetic frequency.
Before commenting further I want to watch mine to see how much it moves. Later.

Ok I just got back and I put about a 100 miles on the car. (it's 80 and sunny here) I cruised at every speed between 40 and 100mph. (yeah I got pulled over doing 80 but I know the trooper AND I have a badge)
The trailing edge does vibrate but nothing that I could by any stretch of the imagination call severe, or even moderately vigorous. It flexes slightly as you might expect it too. It does it less (almost non exsistant) if you dont open it the last two inches (like the manual says) even all the way open at speeds above 80 and up to 100 it hardly moves at all. ( I assume that is because the pressure is keeping it down) I would have to say that at 55mph open all the way is the most noticeable, but as I said it only moves slightly.
If your roof vibrates violently as I have seen some posts indicate I would take it to the dealer and tell them to get in the back seat and watch it. I would like to see an 04 to see if there was a running change on the hardware or design. When it's open all the way in my driveway, I can barely get it to move up or down ...it feels rock solid.
Good luck.
