Default wind deflector shattered

I was driving home from work and heard a loud pop like a bomb hit my car. Figured it was yet another cracked windshield(going on my 5th). This time it was the wind deflector. Is fixing the wind deflector covered under warranty? I have full glass coverage with my insurance but don't know who to go to for this...Good thing I went and got that recall done or I would have been driving the rest of the way home covered in glass.

not the best pics, taken with my phone and with the sun setting...

It would not be a warranty issue. Though I see you have a 2005... did you ever have the "recall" performed on it? It should just have been a black laminate on the back side of it. Was probably 2 yrs ago.

That done or not... it would be an insurance thing.

Did the recall. That only helped it from shattering and falling into the car. Maybe the newer tCs will get a better wind deflector rather than a piece of tape holding the glass from falling on my head.
Well, I figure I gotta go to the dealer either way cause other glass places will probably take longer to get that and probably have no idea on how to replace it.

LOL. I drive 40 miles to work one way. I also ran over a carpet in the left lane of sunrise hwy and a random cone on the gw bridge. I think my car has some kind of magnet, but haven't been able to find it yet.

No, a recall will happen if your in or out of warranty because ultimately its the manufactures responsibility to fix a known defect

This "recall" was only for 2005 and very early 2006 models. And it wasn't even really called a recall... wasn't a TSB either... they made up some weird name for it. Everyone just called it a recall anyway.

this is why i won't drive with my sunroof open, if i open it - it goes into the first position (barely popped open)

but yeah, was your sunroof fully open? going faster than 60? An incoming rock is all it takes to crack the wind deflector if you didn't do the recall (supposedly). You said you've done the recall so I dunno - maybe it was done incorrect (fat chance but you never know) - or maybe it was a really big rock.

In any case - see if you can get if fixed under warranty - the worst they can say is "No."

The "recall" is only a laminate to prevent it from totally shattering and falling into the cabin. From the looks of the pics, it worked. There are just a few pieces on the outside that broke off and fell inside.

I drive with my sunroof open a LOT in the summer. I rarely use the a/c. Highway, city, doesn't matter. Been doing it for over 3 yrs and haven't had any worries or concerns yet.

Of course, as was mentioned, it only takes one pebble... not much you can do about it. Part of the risk of such a setup. Could have just as easily been a chip in your windshield or on your hood.

So when you had that fixed did you get it done through insurance? I've spent most of today talking with dealerships and my insurance and their 3rd party sunroof glass company. The replacement can be covered by the glass coverage, but dealer may not do for the price the insurance wants to pay. I'm having the car in on Saturday for the dealer to write up a full estimate to submit to insurance.
For now...Electrical tape holding it together. I did a nice criss-cross effect to make sure it wouldn't fall apart anymore.

my insurance company said that they wouldn't cover it under the glass coverage considering it's not one of your usual see through glass pieces.. so i decided to fix it myself 263 for the glass.. waiting on it to come in...
