Default Window tint and weather stripping?? Help Needed

I am having problems with my windows ever since I got tint. The weather stripping on the front windows is comming up with the window, it makes a rubbing sound and it is scratching my tint.

NOW. I promise I SEARCHED. But.

I found so many posts of people with the same problem. What I did not see was a sure fire way to fix it. Several said, go to Scion, some said go to tint place, some said remove doors, but I did not see anyone get back on after they fixed theres and say what really worked. I would apriciate any help on this if you were one of the people with this problem. Thanks

Dave

i agree! I have the same things and I just try to keep the windows clean... we need a way to lubricate the weatherstrip so it will stop sticking... watching this thread!

there are actually two weather strips. do you mean the visible one or the one that often has to be readjusted by taking off the panel? try search again; i believe this has been addressed. you may try putting the word "and" between your search words. (i'm moving this to the tC aero & exterior forum, btw).

It is both, but I have it working sort of. Now the problem is the inside one that is felt material. Its bent, half way back. It is scratching the tint. I dont know exactly what it should look like. I need to see someones that is fixed, and then make mine look like thiers...:_)

i tried to find the thread from 2005 that shows how to take off the panel and straighten the strip. as i recall, the tinters push their tool down below the upper stripping to remove the water but this causes the lower stripping to bend downward. the panel has to come off to fix this by uprighting it. there is a step by step photo thread from around august 05. i'll look again.

Take it back, they shouldn't have done that when they put on the tint.

It's been a pretty common problem with tC's though.

I had the same problem with mine. I took the door panel off and pulled off the weather stripping. There are two layers and the bottom layer was half folded down. I folded it back up (felt side against the glass) and let it sit in the sun for a while. I rolled the windows down and back up and everything was like new.

^^^ what he said!!! I had the same problem everybody is having on my driverside window...I took off the door panel then the weather stripping. I rinsed the felt side of the weather stripping with my water hose, made sure there was no dirt or anything on it, let it dry in the sun, then put everything back together. (With the felt side against the tinted side of the window) And haven't had a problem since!! If your tint is already scratched, then I suggest to go back to the tint shop and get the tint redone (if your able to), THEN do what JusL1103 and I said, and you won't have a problem!! Hope this helps anybody

Problem is that most tinters just push the rubber seal (weather strip) down to install the film right at the seal. Some tinters just forget or assume that once you roll the window up it will pop back into place. Now sometimes it won't and the result is just scratching of the window or seal popping out since all the seal is not glued in, it just sits firm right on the door panel. Now the tC door panel is just a bunch of clips so to fix the weather seal just pull the door back when the window is down right by the seal. The door will pop back showing the seal just sitting on the door. Now since the seal is not glued just pull it out and make the adjustments and pop it back in place. Good as new. Just went into detail being I work for a Window tint company. Good lookin out JusL1103
