Default Wiring harness for trailer hitch

Does anyone know if there is a wiring harness for a trailer hitch? We were able to find and mount an aftermarket hitch, but haven't found a harness. We'd rather not hardwire it.

There won't be one. The owners manual states that the car should never tow anything.

Default Wiring Harness

U-haul has the best price on wiring ($16.95). The harness also has LEDs built into the plug so you know if power is getting there. I just installed one in my xb on Saturday. It is easy if you just read the instructions and have a volt meter ($3 at harbor freight).

You aren't supposed to tow anything with your car. It can overstress and overheat the engine very easily.

Actually, you can tow up to about 600 lbs (with only two persons in the vehicle) and it won't overstress the engine. It is no different than having the car with its maximum seating capacity. (The tC does have mounting holes for a small hitch.) I have a trailer hitch and only use it to tow my motorcycle, which weighs just barely over 400 lbs with its skeleton trailer. It only gets used about two or three times a year.

Previous vehicles I have owned had also stated that they were not meant to tow, but when I emailed the manufaturers, they said the vehicles could actaully tow but only up to a certain weight limit. Because the limit was well below what was considered the standard towing limit, they listed them as not being able to do so. Their reasoning was because most people do not pay attention to load capacities and towing limits.

^2nd that. I used u-haul splice on mine. The connectors that don't require cutting wires are nice too(not sure what they are called).

tc=towing capable

How many times have you overheated from towing THansenite and Hot06tC?

Since I'm not towing over 600 lbs (like another car), I'm not worrying about it. Some people act like I'm using my precious tC as a truck - something I'm definitely NOT doing. (Towing my motorcycle behind my car will not cause a problem.)

To those of you that were helpful with the wiring harness info ... thanks a bunch!!

Dude hook a 5th wheel up behind it and pull that sucker out of death valley in July!!!
Just kidding.

Your right if your pulling a VERY light trailer you will have no problems. The biggest thig is remember when towing is your TC just became a take it easy mobil so take it slow. It is really easy to overload your car when your towing and your car is not made to handle it. You also dont have the brakes for stopping. So long as your takeing it easy you will be fine.

Thanks!

I'm going to go like the manual says - 45. You guys got me worried.

From detroit to LA - 2200ish miles. Should be fun.

You'll be fine. Just keep an eye on the temp gauge-especially when climbing. Also downshift if it starts lugging.

Some feedback would be nice too...

I can't get my signals or parking lights to work on the trailer (its the car wiring issue, not the trailer).

ANy ideas? Brakes work fine. I bought this from uhaul per their recommendation http://store.uhaul.com/product_detail.aspx?id=4074

I'm rechecking connections, but all seems ok so far.
