Default Wrecked my tc today

So I was late for school and in a hurry today when I hydroplaned and just couldn't pull out of it, ended up nailing the divider.

That sux but this pic really makes me mad

the AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I mean look at that damage, I smacked my head on the top of the windsheild and got a concusion.

I would appreciate some replys on whether or not u guys think they should of went off. Theres like 8 damn bags in there and they are worthless if they wont deploy and stop me from getting hurt. Thanx in advance

I don't know where the sensors are placed and how fast a collision has to be to set them off, but I am very surprised that ANY didn't deploy. I would seriously look into why they didn't deploy and send Scion your hospital bill

wow, you definatly should call up the scion of america or w.e it is and tell them, the air bags should have deployed, i would call them ASAP, whats the point of having the airbags if they dont work, they need to recall all the tc's and check the airbags this is scaring me now.

Airbags probably shouldnt have deployed, and in that light of a collision probably would have hurt you more than helped. I am very sorry about your wreck and glad you are ok. But everyone please dont go off on the "call scion!!!" binge here. Airbags are designed to NOT go off unless they should go off. Go back to when they first came out and were not that smart.. they nearly were taken out of cars because of all the injuries occuring when they went off in low speed collisions. Just because you hit your head does not mean they should absolutely have gone off.. and were you wearing your seatbelt? If so.. how did you hit the top of the windshield? Just curious.

Oh great.. here come all the recall mongers Just relax guys.. read up on an airbag system and how it is designed to work.. dont go jumping to conclusions..

And even if his had an issue that in no way, shape or form means they should recall all tCs.. that is just downright ridiculous Sorry, not trying to be mean, but it is funny how quick people panic and jump on the recall bandwagon these days before even knowing all the facts.

Where in the front of the car are the sensors placed?

it could be a recall on the way, you should really report that to help out the rest of us if it is a defect.

yup i hit a wall just like that in my first tC at about 70-75mph and i had the upgrade airbags and they did not open up.... i called scion about it they said it had to be a direct front impact, eventhough the bracket the sensor was on was bent... needless to say that car was called a total

it sound like all the guys that have wrecked them and had problems with the airbags should be writing a letter to the damn company or getting a petition together or something. I hope I dont wreck, lol.

i was on the phone w/ a scion tech. and i told him exactly what it was and how the mount looked and he said it was not hard enough... i was like its mounted to steel and the bottom of the bracket just under the sensor looked like a smashed can...WTF!?

Airbags will not deploy during an offset hit like that, at least not at that velocity. Based on the vbisible damage, the impact force was not that great; deformation stops at the base of the A-pillar, there's no broken glass, etc. Just... relax, people.

This to me means that he was speeding in the rain, and not being cautious. Figures why he hydroplaned. Instead of being a few minutes late for school, he never ended up making it. Take your time while driving in the rain. No one has made a comment on this because everyone is all worked up on the airbag issue. But the real issue is the driving...

the airbags should not have deployed based on the angle of the crash. if you hit something head then yes airbags better deploy other than that then its a no.

not to be mean but i cant decide whether r that big azz wing caused you to hydroplane or those crappy bridgestones potenzas. right now im leaning towards those potenza because every crash i have ever seen involved those tires. if the car is salvagable replce those tires stat and lose the wing while your at it because its not a good look for a tc ownerz

Again people, just because the bracket is bent, still does not mean the bags should deploy. It has to do with g-forces due to decelleration and the angle of the crash. Something can push the bracket back and still not create the decelleration needed to deploy an airbag. If you guys had your way there would be a lot of people missing teeth, wearing neck braces or worse from airbags deploying when they should not. TERRIBLE problem back when they first started using them, which is why the made them smarter. And again I ask... if you hit your head above the windshield hard enough to get a concussion, where was your seatbelt???

First of all, i'm glad you're ok and sorry bout the car.
Now...
Why weren't you wearing your seatbelt?! and don't say you were because you wouldn't have hit the windshield with your head unless the front end was way more damaged. And the airbag is not going to deploy from hitting the front side of the car. I believe the sensor that is in the airbag is centered in the front of the car and it usually has to get hit on that spot to do it. It's created like that because the only time you're gonna need the airbag, is to save u from flyin out the windshield. When you get hit from the front side, or hit something from the front side, the airbag will nail you to your door and possibly pushing you out the door, causing a much bigger problem. Just be glad that the airbag didn't deploy because it hurts! It comes out at like 250 mph and has done a lot of damage to peoples faces causing many breaks and bruises in the past. My mom had a broken nose and fractured orbitals (around her eyes) after her airbag deployed

To answer all the questions

Yes I was speeding, I thought that writing "I was in a hurry" made that obvios. But let me ask this.... who doesnt

About the seatbelt... I know this sounds like a lie but I dont remember if I was wearing it or not, I usually do but when I relized that I hit my head it made me question whether or not I did.

Yes that is a terribly ricy $500 cf wing that I put on asap then regreted imediatly.

Finally from the way I look at it... none of this matters, if I was or wasn't wearing a belt, or even if I was f*%@n smashed, those damn bags should have deployed I mean what the hell good are they if they don't. And the issue with them hurting people has been pretty much fixed with the 2nd gen. bags which inflate at a slower rate thus not causing as much injury as the 1st gen. What would be the point of reducing the sensitivity of them if it means potentially putting people at risk.
I appreciate all of the replys
