Default WTF help me REAR TAIL OVERLAY

To make a long story short. I bought the full rear tail overlay kit from bluebatmobile. I had a professional try to install them. NO DICE. They would be too small if the heat was added. The pro then ordered a roll of the same stuff. I waited about a month or so. So yesterday he cuts a big chunk off. slaps it on, plays with it for about 15-20 minutes. burns a hole in it. Peels it off and cuts a new piece. About a half hour later he has the back of the tail perfect but the front and top were horrible and he couldn't work out the wrinkles. how do you put on the overlay with all the tight angles on the taillights? Anyone in south florida put these on a tc and wanna do mine for cheap? The pro said he would cut me the pieces for you to put them one. He just wants to know how anyone can do.

So much for keeping it short.

only half of the can and i got a decent tint going. good luck with the vinyl.

nightshade works but it's very easy to mess up. other than the hassle of clear coating it to get a nice glossy shine
plus the hassles of sanding...
your tails BTW look dull
b/c you can't do a uniform spray over the whole surface of the lens, when lit up, you tend to see patterns where certain areas
have a heavier coat versus other areas that have a lighter coat. the result?
a blotchy taillight when lit up at night.

and it's permanent versus overlays which you can just peel off. True you can use chemical removers or sanding to remove
nightshade but this results in an ugly scratched, dull taillight

clear coating is needed depending on how you spray. spray to far away and you get a rough surface. the trick is to spray close enough that it leaves a glossy finish. and you dont get any "blotchiness" unless you suck at spray painting.

i would rather have my nightshades over some crappy vinyl that will fade and start coming off from the edges.

is that why i see a blotchy pattern on the right half
of your left tail?
and the fact that there is no glossy shine??
hahaha

Did you ask BlueBatmobile for help? The vinyls are easy as pie to put on from what his directions say on the site.

how is that blotchiness? thats the light coming thru lens. obviously if the lens has tint then the light isnt going to come thru. thats why its illegal to tint lights because it messes with output. all ur seeing there is the top of the reflector inside the housing that doesnt shine as bright because the tint blocks the output. wow, people these days need explanations for everything to understand.

Trust me, they won't be small when you heat it up. It will stretch out OVER the edges of the light. Just don't heat it up for too long. You just wanna get it warm enough to stretch out a bit. There's a Tech article on how to do it in the tech section..

ok going back to the original topic....i live in south florida and if anything i could probably help u BUT...at first i tried using that thin stuff it just plain sucks....i ordered these overlays from headlightarmor.com....they are really thick and they dont rinkle...i recomend this material alot...plus it has these tabs where u can stretch the material without actually touching the film...the overlays also come with that little plastic thing that u use on the overlay to take out water and bubbles...this product is the best.

It does take time to get the taillight overlays on, but it can be done as you can see from the pics on my Gallery. I wish you'd contacted me first so I can help you. Email me if you'd like another set

hmm.. had a friend order a roll some overlay material... yeah... had about the same issues at the top with wrinkling

hmm.. enough heat and some stretching helps a little.

true, the top part is the trickiest because of all the curvature. Basically, you want to apply some heat and slowly work the wrinkles out with either your thumb or index finger, or a squeegy. Work from the midde towards the edge of the taillight.
