{Axle-back} Opinions please. TRD or Precision exhaust?
I've been reading and reading, and doing my research. I think I've come to a conclusion to my exhaust upgrade. I wanted a canister that resembled the OEM look.
My two choices are : Trd or the Precision.
Both have nice low rumbles without being too obnoxious.
TRD
Pros: Nice sounds--Good reviews from owners
Con: Its going to be 450 dollars shipped from trdsparks.
Precision:
Pros:
1. 275 picked up (I live right down the street from them)
2. Heard that it gets nice sounds.
Cons: Never talked to anyone that owns one with a stock intake/header (motor), let alone anyone at all. Never heard it in life either!
This is where I need your guy's help! What are your opinions on both exhausts? How you do guys like the TRD compared to the Precision Exhaust--and Vice versa?
What choice would you guys make with the price differences?
I know I wont be making any gains from this upgrade. Its purely for sounds. I dont have much planned for autox or racing my tC. Its going to by a daily driver to and from college/work.
Thanks guys!
All the help will be greatly appreciated.

I was in the same dilemma as you about 1 1/2 years ago. I couldn't decide which one to get. I decided to save some $$$ and go with the PM Axle Back. All I can say is that I made the right choice. The TRD Exhaust was a little too loud for what I was looking for. I wanted something that 'purrs' when I drive and the PM Exhaust does that quite well. So I guess it really all depends on 2 things...
1. Loudness
2. Price.
With the $$$ I saved on the PM Exhaust I had my TRD Springs installed. Even with the purchase of the exhaust and install of the springs, it was still CHEAPER than the TRD Exhaust! Lastly, Stylis at Precision Muffler is a stand up guy. I highly recommend him!

BTW- its my Daily Driver :D
Another question to consider is if you plan to eventually replace your header with some aftermarket one - in which case, the Precision is know to handle the rasp a little better than most other exhausts.
That said, I love my TRD. But I didn't pay $450 for it. Got it used (from the classifieds here) for $250 shipped. Couldn't be happier. So if you can find a deal on the TRD (there's one right now in the classifieds actually), and don't plan on replacing your header, I'd say go for the TRD. But that's b/c I have one.

^ haha mos def. From all the TRD exhaust owners, they love it...with a passion. I would definitely pick one up used, but its still going to be like 350 bucks to ship that sucker.
Im not planning to replace my header, nor my intake for the most part. I was planning to do the g.f.i stage 3, if you know what that is. Thats the reason why I wanted to know the sounds of a Precision and a Trd with a stock motor.
Thanks for the input so far guys!
So far, im leaning towards the precision one.

I definitely reccommend that you get the precision muffler. Not only cause the price but i personally like everything about the PM better than the TRD. The only way the TRD sounds pretty good is if you have a completely stock tC. But i still like the quiet deep smooth sound of the PM, and if u ever get any mods, it keeps its great sound even if u mod ur car up. Its the best in minimizing rasp compared to any axleback IMO. Great magnaflow quality with great customer service from stylis. And also the convenience of the shop being nearby for you and me lol. I will be buying the PM without a doubt.
I have the TRD, and I have to say that I love the sound and the way it looks under the car.
However, looking at the PM it appears it has a more "straight through" design that probably actually gives an actual HP gain as opposed to the TRD which is basically just for sound.
I'd say either choice would be good, but if you still can't decide I'll drive down to san jose and give you a demo of the TRD - it sounds much better in person than in the youtube clips!

Thanks for all the input guys. Im just about 100% sure that Ill be getting the Precision Muffler.
Do you guys happen to know if Stylis has walk-in ready mufflers to sell? Or would I need to have an appointment to come pick one up?

^^Shoot him a PM. You get to choose what kind of tip you want on the exhaust, so he pretty much makes them to order. I think you would be better off calling him (or PM'ing him) first before going down there.
I wanted a tip similar to the TRD Exhaust...(Old pic)

^^That's how Stylis hooked me up.
GOOD CHOICE!!
(If you decide on the PM Exhaust.)

Hyghgynx, do you happen to have a picture of those rims? Those are sweet.
Thanks with the advice about the pm. I think Ill be throwing him one very soon. I needa wait for the cash.

I'm pretty sure Hyghgynx's wheels are 5zigen rsx-6, and there are pics in his profile. I believe 5zigen has discontinued this rim, which is sad because they are super hot. I would almost kill for a set of 18x7.5 hyperblack lol.
Hey guys, Im diggin' this one up from the grave.
Im still stuck. I havent gotten a chance to get my exhaust. And right now, Im feeling much much closer to getting one.
I got an offer for a TRD axleback picked up for 200.
NOW THATS A FRICKING STEAL!
How are the sounds. Im so stuck right now!

Where have I been? I barely found this thread, :D If you are up for it, there is a scion meet tonight in fremont and there will be teo tCs there with the axle back and they have stock motors. Here is the link to the meet:

You can come out to the meet and hear both tCs with the TRD and ours. I just want you to make the right choice, this is an exhaust that you will be with for a long time. I can tell you right now that the TRD axle back makes more noise than our PM axle back with a stock motor. The reason is because of the design that TRD has. The exhaust has to back pedal in the muffler, where as our exhaust is a straight through design for better flow.
