Default 06+ Rav4 intake manifold for tC?

ive been looking at specs for the different 2AZ-FE engines and seems as though the 06+ rav4 have about 5 more hp then a tC i did some reading and it seems as though this is due to a revised intake manifold design... i know people are always complaining about not having a choice for a different intake manifold and this might be something to look into.

does anyone know anything else about this?

here is a snippet from a article i found about the 06+ rav4

"The base engine is a 2.4-litre inline four with VVT-I (variable valve timing with intelligence). It cranks out 166 horsepower -- up five from the previous motor -- and generates 165 lb.-ft. of torque.

The increased performance is the result of changes to the intake manifold and camshafts, which have also reduced fuel consumption to 10.1 litres/100 km in the city and 7.7 on the highway for a combined rating of 9.0 litres/100 km. "

now i know the tC got those revised camshafts as well as a revised header in 07 but im pretty sure we didn't get that new intake manifold

Good stuff. I just calleda toyota dealer. I asked the guy if the 06' rav for was compatible with any other 2.4 engines like the solara and he said no... only with the Scion tC!!! lol crazy huh. Bad news is that the revised intake manifold from the 06 rav4 is the 05 scion tc intake manifold... sucks!! Good idea though.

ether way im sure there is some intake manifold from one of the ether older or newer modeled 2AZ-FE engines that will flow better then our current one. would it be worth it though idk

i used to have a bmw 328i and one of the most common mods was to take the intake manifold from a 325i and modify it to fit on a 328i and you would gain like 15 hp... even though the 325i had less hp the manifold design worked better on the newer engine

i would also like to point out that it was putting a 2.5L manifold on a 2.8L engine ...

Wow, I thought all 2AZ-FE uses the same setup...

I would love to test these two parts in my tC, only if I had the money...

17120-28090 -- supercedes to 17120-28100

Scion tC 2.4L 2AZ-FE 07-current
17120-28170 -- supercedes to 17120-0H080

Camry 2.4L 2AZ-FE 03-06 California Emissions
17120-28080

Camry 2.4L 2AZ-FE 02-06 Federal Emissions (Japan Built)
17120-28070 supercedes to 17120-0H010 (same as US built)

Camry 2.4L 2AZ-FE 07-current California Emissions
17120-28160

Camry 2.4L 2AZ-FE 07-current Federal Emissions

Highlander 2.4L 2AZ-FE 01-03
17120-28040

Highlander 2.4L 2AZ-FE 04-07
17120-28130

Matrix 2.4L 2AZ-FE 09-current
17120-0H080

Rav4 2.4L 2AZ-FE 04-05
17120-28100

Rav4 2.4L 2AZ-FE 06-current
17120-0H080

Solara 2.4L 2AZ-FE 02-03
17120-0H010

Solara 2.4L 2AZ-FE 04-06
17120-0H010

Solara 2.4L 2AZ-FE 07-current
17120-0H050

That should be all of them...

It's usually an ECU calibration difference between the vehicles. The power band can be tweaked slightly from vehicle to vehicle to accommodate its demands. IMO, not going to be worth it. We went through most of this @ the Solara forum... bad game. Bad game indeed.

I will have to agree with 05FMtC -- we saw that the tC one was 'squished' in while the Solara had more room (since the V6 was a larger option).

Happy Birthday.

I think it's done. I've listed all 2AZ-FE/2AZ-FXE intake manifolds. I also have them available for a cheap price

The only one where I think the manifold will matter is changing a California Emissions spec to a Federal Emissions Spec version. Aside from that, I still think it's all in the ECU calibration.

The 2006 RAV4 intake manifold is the same as the 2007+ tC intake manifold. The 05-06 has a different one. I don't think they increased the HP rating in 2007 (did they?). It was strictly done for emissions.

well the new 07-08 engines do make a bit more hp then the older ones. its something to the extent of 3-4whp. the hp rating system was changed and if the newer engines where tested under the older ratings it would be making closer to 170hp then 160hp.

so im thinking they did it more so that they could keep the same power rating as the older engines rather then for emissions

There isn't a rule of thumb for calculating the new "SAE-Certified" rating though. Some engines have gone up while others have gone down.

Just looked in the "New Car Features" section of our technical database and found this:

Changes from ’06 Models:
The length and shape of the intake manifold ports have been modified to accommodate increased maximum engine speed.
