Default 4-2-1 header/exhaust/heat wrap

Hey guys I just got done wrapping my MMW 4-2-1 header and was wondering if anyone has done it before and has any pics of it in the process of wrapping or finished? It was kinda confusing considering i only had a limited amount of wrap. I used the ThermoTec wrap from autozone and ill probably be high-temp painting the outside to help preserve it.

Anyway yea just looking for some tips if there are any ways that you guys did it thats fairly easy. Thanks!

Yea i just did iet yesterday and it didnt turn out too well but it holds up, its tight, and doesnt look bad either. When i did the wrap i didnt have enough to go through both pipes so once i got to the top portion of the header i did 2 pipes at a time. So im kinda wondering if thats even worth doing the wrap? Or just anytips really. Its my first time doing a wrap

Top to bottom, always. Individual pipes always. Metal strap ties aren't cheap but you gotta have them. It won't deteriorate without the paint so you don't need it. I ran mine on my turbo downpipe (very hot) for 2 years and it looked like new. It'll smell for a bit after install but other than that, very easy and good mod. Take your time and buy more if you need to.

Great advice thank you. What if i have to cut it? Would you recommend not cutting and just dealing with the extra by wrapping it around some random spots? Or should i cut it to be more organized. And i actually meant that when i got up to the 4 pipes i distributed to wrap 2 and then once i got to the top i moved over to the other 2 and went down from there. So overall i went from the bottom 1/2 of the pipe all the way to the top, then from the top i moved over to the other 2 pipes and went all the way down the other 1/2. Ill try to get some pics up later maybe itll make more sense.

As long as you're happy with how it looks and it doesn't start to fall off, the routing looks OK. I'm picky and a perfectionist which sometimes leads to unnecessary methods of doing things. If you have to cut it to get it to look like what you want, then cut it. Just be sure that every free end has a metal tie to secure it in place so it doesn't unravel or loosen up. If at all possible, wrap each pipe individually but if there isn't enough clearance (which is the case more than not) then two is OK. I wouldn't go anymore than that personally.

yea that makes sense. Their really is no way to get every one wrapped individually completely cause at one point 2 of the pipes pretty much touch. I wish i took a picture of it but i would barely be able to slip a sheet of paper through it. and yea i think im gonna go back and buy a few clamps tomorrow to make sure they all hold. Dont want anything coming loose. Specially at the top of it. It was pretty tough getting it to hold. Thanks for your help man.

If anyone else has any tips let me know!

Definitely make sure you get those high temp ties asap because the wrap will loosen up and unravel if you don't tie it down correctly.

good wrapping of the headers, i was going to try that but i was not a big fan of the look of a warp header, like the headers just plain, but good job

Can't the header wraps possibly hurt/put little cracks in the header due to the heat!!! I've heard this a time or two before!

I actually heard that as well but im an auto naturally aspirated so i dont think im bringing up too much heat. Plus i also heard that cracking i caused by water or humidity that gets in the engine bay and i dont have a vented hood and im under covered parking as well.

This does concern me so if you find any info this is the right thread to stash it in haha thanks man

If it's a good quality piece, you shouldn't have any cracking. I ran the exact same header wrap on my Turbonetics downpipe and never had one hint of an issue. It worked great. I live in FL and drove in the rain a lot too. EGT's were much higher with that than N/A.

Thats good then that gives me good hope that it'll be safe haha. Its the monster motoworks 4-2-1 header and its used (idk mileage) but yea EGT is staying low not really doing anything too big to the engine bay yet. Thanks for the reply!

If you break a header because of header wrap, you did yourself a favor and got rid of a crappy header lol. Plus, you can re-use the wrap on your new header! lol
