Default Adding 10hp for $70?

Was searching through google for after market parts and came across this web page: http://www.turbonator.com/ . Anyone know anything about these?

Installs in just 5 minutes and for around $70. Will 10hp make a noticable differance? Any other cheap performance mods for the xA? The car is peppy enough from 20-60mph but from 0-20mph its really slow.

i'm sure that it and many other similar products have been discussed before...
"If it sounds too good to be true, it prolly is."
Don't be fooled!
peeps pay $3k+ for a turbo/super charger and get about 50hp. $70 for 10hp is proposterous.

10 hp is a huge gain, but the "turbonator" will not make even 1hp.

An intake and exhaust will help a little. Together you probably won't get a full 10 HP, the rest of those things are shady - be skeptical

Do a search on here for turbonator for more in-depth responses. You'll get all the info you need.

And BTW, the resistor chip on eBay won't do any good either...

I didn't word that well, what I meant was that each of those mods claim about a 5 to 15 hp gain but all together barely get that and those are proven methods. The turbonator claims it'll do even more - I doubt it...

Isn't it amazing how despite Turbonator being around for so long, new people still come across it? :? Another scam are those chips that guarantee at least 5 hp for only $20. I think EBAY has a whole bunch of those listed. You end up doing damage to your car as oppose to increasing any power.

Common sense states that even if the turbonator is pushing air faster into your car, how is it making any difference without a scoop, or true intake? And then, without an exhaust or other true turbo-like components, do you really expect to get that much more out of it?

I think general consensus is that an intake/exhaust will get you a little bit more power, but nothing so significant as dropping a few thousand dollars into your car :/

Import Tuner dyno'd an xB with a few mods (if you haven't see it already):

that's unclear as to if they removec component A before putting on B. IE, is the 6.8 all three mods combined or the header only?

I'm assuming that all three (CIA, exhaust, and header) all together gained 6.8hp, according to the "performance chart" at the bottom. :?

actually, the ebay chips all claim 20hp (!!!) for around $4 + shipping. yes, four dollars

And I would agree with everyone who has already said it... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. don't waste your money

Interesting note on the Exhaust trial from above link:

Just for kicks, we dynoed the vehicle without an exhaust as many Scion owners claim their car produced horsepower. Not to our surprise, the vehicle lost two to three hp and torque all throughout the powerband.

I find the part where they say the turbonator appeared in the various car magazines hilarious.

Why? Because the page they appear in is the one inch ad section in the classifieds :D Yup, right next to the sweepstake scams and vacation packages.

If that thing Improves MPG I'm a Laminak
Do NOT Waste your Money!
I'ts just another case of people who will tell you what you want to hear to get your money.
Almost every single one of these "Electric Superchargers" and turbos are what is known as a Bilge blower, something used in boats to blow dangerous gasses out of the motor compartment. You can buy one for $20.00 at your local Marina
Putting one of these on you car would be like putting your house fan in your engine compartment

If you want to improve MPG; drive sedately, don't haul heavy loads and keep your engine maintence up.

My experience is that it did not work in terms of feeling any extra power or increase gas mileage on my '95 camry. It was a waste of money. I'd rather spend a little extra for an intake system....with this, I gain about 1 mpg, and that is averaging over 60,000 after installing a K&N cone filter in the camry. (not to mention the increase power sensation over 4k RPM)
