Default Adding larger resonator to Megan midpipe...

Ok, so I'm the one running the full OE-RS Megan kit, headers, s-pipe and all... and, well, while the OE-RS sounds fantastic, the Megan midpipe even with its 2 resonators does not do well at combating header rasp... but that's ok, because unlike many, I have no problem getting something welded on to the midpipe... you can't see it anyway, so I'd rather weld and cut that than live with the unpleasant noise coming from my exhaust pipe. So, my question is, in adding a resonator to this setup, what's the best option? Should I:

1. Have the first, smaller resonator and some piping after it removed and a larger one added.
2. Have the second larger resonator and some piping before it removed and a larger one added.
3. Have a third resonator installed in between the two.

Thanks for your help.

Why not put a hi-flow catalytic converter?

becuase that would ruin the largest increase in hp from the megan exhuast of removing the catalytic converter.....unless he has to to pass inspection

Nope, no inspections down here in Dixie. Yeehaw! Or something to that effect.

So, I think I'm gonna do it. The little resonator seems to have a lot of piping after it before the hangers and longer resonator. So how large a resonator should I go with? And are Magnaflow resonators the way to go?

So, now I've heard that addinga resonator might not help anyway... and this is kind of becoming a problem, seeing as how much money I already invested in this whole thing and... well... I can't really afford to start throwing parts around... at least, I'd really not like to have to do that.

Adding a larger resonator to replace the smaller first one WILL help but I think adding a hi flow cat would be your best bet. Its what I plan to do with my Megan Mid pipe.

im runnin a similar set up.. well not really, but i did have rasp.. so here is what i did:

i was running:

Megan Header > Megan S-pipe > Strait Pipe > Magnaflow Muffler

so when i put hte header on you could only assume how much rasp i had.. with no resonator or cat.

what i did was add a 30 inch resonator ot hte midpipe.. that got rid of some of the rasp, but nto all.. i still had some at 2500-3000rpm.

then i figured i would add a cat because my car smelled bad.. and cops would notice( i live in cali.. so carb is a big thing.. ___ cops), but ya, once i added the magnaflow hi-flo cat.. the smell went away(kinda).. and the rasp is completely gone, well except when the car is cold.

Yeah its always louder on them first startups. So a cat and a good sized resonator should do it for header equipped tC's. Two big resonators does it too!

I added a Magnaflow hiflow cat and it made a world of difference... I haven't looked into replacing the OE-RS resonator with a larger Magnaflow one, though...

I have the drift spec and I welded in a Magnaflow Resonator and Hi flow cat. I did the cat first and it made a much larger reduction in noise than the resonator did.

You wouldnt happen to have a picture of that would you? I want to at least add a cat to it but that would mean relocating the resonator that comes with it or replacing it altogether. Id rather relocate as Im sure the cat would make just enough difference for me. I also dont plan on adding a header cause I want turbo! Which catalytic converter did you buy also? Please help me. Thanks!

This is what I ordered from Summit Racing.
MPE-53006 1 1-2 bus. days FED-EX Parts: $58.95
Handling: $8.95
Ground Shipping charges: **FREE**

I got it the next day from them and it worked out very well. Had it welded in for $30 and it fixed 90% of the rasp.

I don't have any pictures, but to make it quietest, mount it as close to the header as possible. To make it flow the best, mount it as far away from the header as possible. Mine is mounted right at the end of the mid-pipe.

This is all good info. i am looking to install some headers on my tC, but i have no Megan exhaust set-up. this is my plan though. Aftermarket headers (have not decided which ones yet) Megan S-Pipe, Megan Mid-pipe, and my TRD Axle Back. would this be able to work? but of course i am going to add a resonator and a high-flow cat. Let me know what you guys think.. Thanks

Is it kinda weird to have the cat after the resonator though? I mean a cat is usually up front right? Id like to keep it as neat as possible by not having to move the resonator back but Id also like the cat to be functional. Will it pass a visual inspection if its mounted in the back? Thanks!

I did this for sound and packaging only. Not worried about emmissions.
