Sounds like the description of a missed shift to me, where the clutch wasn't fully engaged and/or the gears didn't mesh...until you forced them, which was the "something hiting something", as you put it.

when does it happen . . . when you shift or let the clutch out or when you hit the gas after the clutch is out?

is it like when slamming second and you get a little wheelspin and you hear a clunk! if thats what it sounds liek its the motor mounts hyperextending. Get an ingles engine dmpaner and it should go away. Mine does it everytime i slam second, in every tc iv ever driven(which is alot)

Could be the motor mounts bottoming out or you are hitting 2nd gear at too low an rpm and when the power comes on it bangs from the play in the drivetrain.

Ok the engine mounts move a certain amount then they bottom out and it would happen more in lower gears because the gear reduction in the tranny generates more reaction torque on the engine when the wheels grab - that's why turbos in 1st and 2nd break things. You could also be working loose rivits in the clutch disk but more likely the motor mounts - look under the hood for metal to metal contact on the mounts or it may be the lower mount on the bottom - one xB actually loosened the bolts and the threads were rubbing and it slid in the hole. Or take it a little easier - you will break something eventually if you keep beating on it!

like i said, its your motor mounts, get an ingles stiffy and you'll be fine. Ive only seen one broken motor mount on a scion and it was supercharged and i seriously ____ed up, i missed 4th....went into second yeah i know im a moron it was mid corner and i was getting thrown all around inside the car racing it and i slammed 4th or so i thought and broke the front motor mount.

im not beating on it. sometimes you have to down shift in traffic to avoid things or speed up. i baby this car and if that is gonna break it then i should get rid of the thing right now

not to start a fight but hes an xb driver with a little dinky echo motor. The tc is very durable. Take it to your local dealer have them check it out, its probably the motor mounts clunking during wheelspin. You did mention you dont beat on it tho. Bring it to the dealer see what they say.

Hey I've driven a 65 rambler American with a flat head 6 for 9 years 100,000 miles a 80 VW rabbit with the small engine for 12 years 163,000 miles and a 1994 Geo Metro for 12 years 90,600 miles and NEVER have to down shift to get out of the way of anything. My xB has more HP than anything I have driven and more than I need. You better learn how to drive!

Hey i hear it too and i made a dent in my MMW Spipe and the MMW guys told me i have a blown motor mount which i know isn't true because my previous tc did the same therefore they won't warranty my headers. I bought and engine damper from MMW and to me it wasn't that great. it works but its poor. no matter how much tighten the nut i always have to check it because it comes lose. and i get scared it might fall on to something i don't want it to. (belts) I still get the clunk though sometimes i feel like i heard 2 things hitting i dunno. should have paid more for ingals. Also let me add this the clunk makes the car lag for 1 second anyone notice that?
