i have the s/c and was thinking that maybe a radiator upgrade is in store this summer (tx is a bee-yotch with the heat). anyways, wondering if anyone has replaced theirs yet, with what and how did it work out.... thinking that ours is 28x17?

yeah. the s/c shaft seal tends to go crap on us s/c guys cuz of the heat. that compounded with the amazing heat in dallas kinda dooms my s/c to a short lifespan.

 

The radiator wont help that though. The heat (although unconfirmed as the cause.. but a probable culprit) is from the header, which will be just as hot with a larger radiator.

 

i was gonna poke holes in the radiator so the exiting fluid would splash on the header and thus cool it b4 it permanently damaged the shaft seal.

ok, kidding. dangit. is there anything besides more heatshielding/wrapping that can help preserve my shaft-seal life?

 

Not that I know of. But I think part of the issue was faulty installation combined with the heat, but who knows.

 

wrap the header, then put the heatshield on (ghetto rig it LOL), then wrap the heatshield. isnt there some type of spray on coating thats supposed to help guard against heat? you could put that stuff on the header or heatshield

you can get the ceramic coated DC header, which is supposed to reduce heat.

or get a reversed vented hood and/or run larger fans.

 

you can have them coated by varios places. I think jethot is supposed to be good.
