Default Backwards Battery Polarity issue..

So my friend was switching him battery with mine to check if his battery was dead, and hooked it up backwards on my car. A bunch of sparks later,
my car will not start, radio, interior gauge lights, windows/sunroof, LOCKS, all do not work. I've checked various fuses and such but have had no lead.

Can anyone give their .02 on this? Anyone ever done this? lol

That is strange, I did that to my tC too.

But everything was fine after I install my original battery back on.

Unplug the battery and remove the dome light bulb and start pulling fuses, in some Toyota a back up power system retains some power.

I would also disconnect the ECU then star t the car just once to drain power from anything else, then put it all back together.

every fuse i checked was fine. is there like a main fuse or anything? i checked every fuse, under hood and under dash, that i thought it wouldve affected. all the ign fuses and ECU fuses. i just hope it wasnt an in-line fuse or the ECM

exactly how many sparks were flying around when your idiot of a friend was messing with your car?

if fuses aren't blown.. then you might as well sue the bastard.

you WISH they're just fuses... and i hope they are as well. check them again.

x2
its gonna suck if you shorted any wires,, imagine trying to go thru every wire to find which one is bad good luck, start praying that its just a fuse

ok did you check the fuses with DMM or just look at them.......if they all test good then you busted wires to the starter, ignition,or God forbid the ECU......your fuel pump pumping fuel, are you gettign spark....lots of areas to check....this is gonna take you some time to find it.

Remember that there are fuses in the engine bay AND in the interior under the steering wheel.

dont think there is a inline on the ECM.......know there is one in the box before it,but did not see one on the wire diagram mounted inline.....that could be it though.....

Look inside the fuse box under the hood. There should be a couple of fuses that are large and have a clear top. Those are the main fuses. One for the battery and one for the alternator. Or at least that's how it was on my Camry.

I haven't really looked at my tC's fuse box. But the last time I heard of someone doing this the ECU was fried along with many other fuses. But that was on a Hyundai. Let's pray Toyota designed the tC to be more idiot proof.

Yea there are a few larger, clear cased fuses that are the main power dist. fuses. I blew my ALT fuse a while back by doing the same thing. There a pain to change, but thats prob your problem. It was weird because when I blew mine, some things worked, like the gauges would turn on with the ignition, but the car wouldnt start.

same thing happened in my g/f altima, her stepdad thinks he is car smart and f'd it up. he was telling her that she was gonna have to replace the ECU, battery, alternator....etc. when i checked it out it was only a $4 fuse that I had to replace....
i havent let him touch her car since then. lol
