Bent rod...isn't that a little personal?

Anyhow, hydrolock sucks! Check EVERYTHING for other possible damage when you're in there. Make sure none of the other rods have cracks, especially if you find water in those cylinders.
I don't remember where, but I think I have seen billet connecting rods out there for the 2AZ.
Good luck, man.

senseiturtle 03-21-2006 07:34 PM

So do we have the first case of hydrolock in a tC ?

scholarbb 03-21-2006 07:42 PM

Sounds like it. Probably would'nt have happened with owner driving. Apparently CAI's and BROs don't mix.

ricktoyota73 03-21-2006 07:45 PM

Sounds like it, but any car can do it if you drive through deep enough water....especially if you have a cold air intake on it.
We had a Tundra 4X4 that had obviously been offroading with the factory air box on it come in with hydrolock. He must have gone through a pond or something.

soooo bad, honestly could not find a single spot of paint or find the motor
was covered everywhere.....

WeDriveScions 03-21-2006 11:04 PM

Also Running a 75 shot of N2O as well, if I can recall?

That could of done some damage as well....

zer0 03-22-2006 04:45 AM

car-part.com is your friend.

$750 for a running motor is not bad.

The_Sciontist 03-22-2006 05:23 AM

dp-_- 03-22-2006 06:02 AM

well, he TRIED...and we looked at the car for him, but it came down to the fact there was NO WAY we could have gotten anything covered for him, since he decided to take his truck swamping

neways, you get the motor looked at??

I never heard anyone say it was impossible.. you can hydrolock anything if you try hard enough. People just said the risk wasnt enormous.

We also dont know it hydrolocked... and unless his brother completely tore down the motor he really doesnt even know if he has a bent rod yet.

TCgetonmylevel 03-22-2006 03:20 PM

but if it is, he should buy a bike and rebuild the internals with some mean stuff and ride it out and when he gets it back together make it either a mean low compression turbo motor, or go all out like 15-1 compression and make the tC sound like a GSXR!!!! ^sarcasm on the 15-1 comp.....lol

Dude did you see the weather for Dallas? I'm really suprised that the car was even driven.

unvdistc 03-22-2006 07:12 PM

Update!!! Good news!!!! Water was in the intake...... took the spark plugs out, dried everything up, took oil out and let the car sit overnight. Replaced the spark plugs and oil and cranked it. it rolled over and started. Water spit out of the exhaust. I did not want to run it long so I turned it off and brought it back to my mechanic. He is going to look at it tonight and hopefully everything will be OK.

It ran a little ruff but at least it started.....

I will keep you updated!

ScionBandit 03-22-2006 07:27 PM

so far, not that bad

scholarbb 03-22-2006 07:28 PM

GOOD DEAL! You may also want to check out the cats while its in the shop. I had a converter get damaged from coolant after cracking a head once. Also someone else driving the vehicle. Hope it all works out.

ScionBandit 03-22-2006 07:43 PM

What kind of cold air intake was it?? K&N, injen, fugita, aem

atodak 03-23-2006 11:05 AM

I believe it was the Budweiser Select CAI

Beantowntc 03-23-2006 12:48 PM

his profile says k&N cold air

bbsciontc 03-23-2006 01:44 PM

I had something similar happen to one of my other cars and I thought I damaged the motor as well. It turned out that water got into the spark plug wires and was sending the spark to ground through the water instead of through the plug. I just got new plugs and wires, dried everything out and was good to go. You might want to keep an eye on your MAF sensor as well as they can corrode from water causing them to malfunction. Hopefully everything else is ok. Good luck.

ScionBandit 03-23-2006 01:48 PM

update for today????

unvdistc 03-23-2006 03:25 PM

Nothing yet.... hopefully tonight

ScionBandit 03-23-2006 03:31 PM

sounds good, hopefully its not terrible news

unvdistc 03-24-2006 01:35 PM

Well, the motor is shot.... We are pulling it this weekend..... probably going to buy a new one and try to build this one up...... it is definetely hydrolocked... the engine would not even turn over. Starter just kept winding......

Whatever you do don't let your brother drive your scion through monsoons in Dallas with a CAI!!!!! :silly:

Looks like this car will be down for a couple of months..... right at carshow season too..... sucks.....

Well one good thing will come out of this......300+ HP NA motor.......stay tuned!!!!!!!
