Black smoke
So I was just wondering about when I'm running my car and I shift at a high RPM why would their be a poof of black smoke that comes from my exhaust? It's done it for the longest time but I'm guessing it's not hurting anything. I'm just guessing I'm running rich but is there anything I can really do about it on a N/A car??

when you're shifting you still have spent exhaust gases in your exhaust system. the back-pressure creates a negative vacuum for a quick second til you change the gear. all the trapped exhaust then gets pushed out, the exhaust before and after the shift mix which makes it darker.
if you're blowing out black smoke constantly your motor is toast.
