Default Burning Lots of Oil

Hey all. First off I'm driving an 05 tC. For the past few months I've noticed that I'm consistently burning lots of oil. I would say about 3 quarts in a month. Everyone that I've talked to has said it's probably a piston ring that is broken or gone. Everything runs fine, no leak around the head gasket. Just looking for some input from you guys.

I would love to try to fix this problem myself but I'm not really sure about engine stuff. I'll try to fix anything myself I just don't want to damage something. Any info would be extremely helpful.

Thanks

you'd have a lot of blue smoke coming out of your tail pipe if the piston ring was broken. have you noticed that?

Haven't noticed a lot. I have been told that on occasion it does spit some black/blue smoke. And any reason why valve stem seals? Also how much of a pain are they to change?

My 07 was doing the same thing. I know they released a TSB but it was only for the 07 motors I think. I ended up getting rid of the tC before hand lol maybe see of the TSB applies to your motor.

Did a compression test last night. 3rd cylinder was running about 30 below the other ones. :/

Take some marvel mistery oil. Pour about an 1oz in that cylinder and let it sit oover night. Next day put it back togather. Start it up let it run for 30 mins then check the compression again. Sound like the oil ring on that cylinder are frozen closed.s

Pull the plug I'm assuming? And should I just let it idle for half an hour or drive it?

Crank the car over a couple times with no plugs to get that oil out. Place a towel over the holes so it doesnt spray every where. I would let it idle for 30 then drive it around the block a few. Check the compression. Make sure you replace the plugs drive it again and check it in 50 miles. If it continues or get worst you will have to replace the rings.
