Default Calling All High Powered Autos

Ive read the threads here and there, but i know there are a few auto's on here who have done quite a bit to the tranny just wanted to make a post to find out a) What whp and wtq you are making b) what tranny mods you have and c) How long youve been running like this and how well does the tranny perform (shifting, slipping, etc)

Thanks guys!

Well Ill be the first!
A) 261WHP
244WTQ
13 psi on a zpi stage 1 kit

B)tranny cooler---Royal Purple max ATF---IPT valve body upgrade

C)Was running this set up for 5 months and it was to much for the trans it slowly went out and died on me It stating slipping in one gear and another then just go worse and worse. I Have been boosted with the auto trans for about 2 year something like that and this was the highest HP number I ran with this kit. The HP numbers was just a tick too much I think thats where it went wrong. But the vlave body did make a did difference for the trans

^^
Yup once it starts it doesnt stop.
Turbo kit with managment probly paid like $2500 for everything, $600 for the valvebody upgrade and I think I paid like $800 for the last tune but I had to buy a wastegate and they made a dump tube for me.

Mines not bad yet but I really wanna pick up one of these auto tranny's in TX for only $175 - hell one only has 10k miles on it. I know I cant afford $3500 for a full build but i sent an email to IPT - hoping to get a response back soon - on if we could possibly either beef up or add additional clutch packs in 1st 2nd and 3rd along with the modified valve body to help hold additional power - im really wanting to shoot for aroudn 300whp daily Thats my ultimate goal!

So im wondering, has anyone sucessfully gotten the auto over 300whp daily and had it hold together? If so what did it take to get it there? Im starting to wonder if it may be a better route to do a manual swap. Cost wise too. Id be doing all the work myself so it seems even with a nice clutch/flywheel combo id be able to get it done for under $1500 - i sourced out most the parts id need today through a few scrapyards. And all in all im looking at about $900 for all the scrap parts - than prolly around $600 for a nice clutch and flywheel. I know alot say not to do the swap but unfrotunately I wont be able to buy a new car for a long time due to me ruining my credit so my only real option is to build on what I have. Fortunately i do have one thing going for me - i have the tools, experience, and know how to pretty much do whatever I'd want to myself - money now thats another story lol. So im starting to think - is it really worth it to build up the auto to take 300+whp daily or should I just go ahead and prepare for a 5spd swap

I wanna know too. Really thinking of buying a junkyard trans and putting clutch packs. I have my garage made trans parts now and my clutches are already slipping...

I think that if you put a set of clutch packs with a valve body upgrade mabey that would be able to get you close to 300whp and on top of these mods you do the tq converter I think 300 would be in sight with no problem. I was gonna do this with my trans but only if I could do the work my self. I wasnt going to pay someone another $2000 on top of the trans parts to do it.
For the longest time I was thinking I could do it myself. But im not much of a tranny person. I asked around for a little bit what people though of the trans and they said there is just alot to one of these trans. So this kinda scared me away form doing this. But if you know you trans and take you time with it im sure your could be successful with it.

Never really messed with an import trans before but changing valve body springs and brazing the converter wasn't bad I got it all done in a day. Runs like ___ still... Kinda seems like the only 'worth it' mod for our trans is the cooler and clutch packs.

Did you add the modified valve body after the trans was already slipping? If i stay with the auto - im def gunna go to a new trans and do the modified valve body to a trans in good shape rather than mine thats already slipping. Also how much power are you making?

Hmm yea never heard of a valve body breaking, so chris how did yours shift after replacing it? Also do you think the reason its slipping bad now is due to the tranny already beign damaged when you decided to go with the modified valve body?

Heh, typing on a cell phone sucks... Reason why they broke was the IPT was bought off a local who blew his engine and the valve body was already damaged (my guess). The lvl10 was because of an oil leak that I didn't notice, it just plain ol' overheated. Now my clutches are slipping after the turbo install a few days ago. Gonna need to get a flush and once I can afford clutches, do an upgrade.

I would say the car deffently shifted harder and faster. I thought it was much better then stock.
Yes I think it was a combo of the trans being whooped on before the upgrade and just me putting more power through the trans then it could handle

You def, want to upgrade the clutch packs. The biggest killer of the clutch packs is heat.

Hence why a auto transmission oil cooler is so important. B&M also makes the heavy duty ones that have a fan on them.

As for the valve body, I had one on my old accord. Thing held perfectly when it was running at 250 whp. And that's under HARD driving.

People alway rag on auto's as not being as good. Boost Logic does amazing work with the supra automatics. The old mitsubishi gsx's were auto turboed. It will take money to build one up though.

Eventually I think that manual transmissions will be phased out. Now days it's all about the paddle shift and sequential manuals. I mean the Evo X has a paddle shift. IS-F is paddle shift.

It's going to be a sad day when roadsters become automatic sequential and such.
