Default Car barely starts up

In the morning (and usually only in the morning) when I start my car, it sounds like it doesn't want to start. It seems like it gets pretty close to stalling, but then it starts. It sounds fine afterwards. I do have an Injen CAI and a Tanabe exhaust and 111K miles. However, I think it was doing this back when I first got the car and before the mods were installed, but wasn't this bad. It's gotten worse over the last couple of months.

Any suggestions or more info needed?

it could be your battery. You ever changed it?

In the beginning, that's what it was like. But now, it's leaning more towards the not starting part than ever before, so if there's a problem I'd like to get it figured out before I get stuck somewhere.

when you replaced it. Did you clean the connectors?

Probably not, but it really wasn't giving me a problem right after changing the battery.

with a new battery and clean connections... first thing that pops in my head is the starter... but very difficult to say for sure what the problem is without specifics on the issue....

I pretty sure its your battery. I had the same problem and it got to where I had to turn the key a few times in the morning for it to start. there were times the crank wouldnt even turn at first. You probably got a bad battery off the shelf...its possible. take it back and ask them to get your money back and get a new battery. there should have been some kind of 60-90 days return or something like that for it. if anything have then test it. A friend had the same problem with his 97 blazer and i told him its probably his battery. he went and got a started and then when we jumped started his car, it worked. Couple hours later he got a battery and hasnt had a problem since.

I have the same problem. I use to run 91 octane shell, tried 87 octane chevron and it fixed the problem temporarily. I'm gonna try running some BG 44K fuel system cleaner to see if that helps.

i think advance auto or autozone will test your battery for you, that may give definitive answer on a bad battery. Yeah my seems to turnover more than other cars before starts.

Why do people insist on putting premium in these cars? *sigh* your just wasting money...

Anyway OP..if the battery is fine the next thing to check would definitely be your starter..with that many miles on the car it's getting about that time where it's gonna go bad

Is there anything that I can do to check the starter?

Because shell premium does in fact have twice the detergents Top Tier recommends. So no I didn't do it because of the "extra power" or "MPGZ". I could say the same thing about people who run expensive synthetic oil for 3000 miles, but everyone seems hellbent on stopping people from running premium. Besides, it's only like 1 dollar more every time I fill up. Not a big deal considering I spend a lot more on other useless things.

Anyways, I think it's fuel related issue with my car since it only has 15,000 miles. I tested my battery with a volt meter, and it read within spec (12.6 volts). It's hard to just take it to the dealer since it's not a replicable problem. And if the mechanic can't replicate it he won't even bother. I'm gonna run that 44K fuel system cleaner, and I'm gonna switch to a slightly thinner 30 weight oil. I'm also gonna get rid of that TRD oil filter I've been running. I'm gonna put on a Denso/OEM filter.

OP: To check the starter you're gonna need an Ammeter and an Ohmmeter. Check out sections 19-1 and 19-2 of repair manual on SL's tech section here. https://www.scionlife.com/tech/

I had the same problem..

My CAI filter was dirty as hell and I replaced that, got a new battery and everything was fixed.

Good luck
