Carb exempt
Just a quick thought came in mind. What really sets the difference between the TRD cai being carb exempt and the injen not? Right now I have a injen CAI and honestly I dont want to put my stock intake back in the future when I need to get a smog test. I was reading the article on the TRD intake and it had some sort of camry carbontrap filter thing haha I can't remember, but where is that located? Is that carbon thing within the filter or tubing? Is it also possible to take off my injen sticker and slap on a TRD on or whoever the TRD cai's look like just to past visuals?
the trd cai for the tc is not and was never CARB legal, or CARB exempt. i don't think there are any CARB legal or exempt intakes for the tc with the exception of the TRD supercharger.
putting a TRD sticker on it doesn't automatically make it CARB legal, you need a CARB Legal sticker on the intake along with the corresponding part number to prove that it is legal.

Oh yeah forgot about that carb #, but yeah this articles talks about it, it was on another post.

I've always heard that the injen CAI is the best and I want it, but dunno if its a good investment considering the carb crap. I live in MD and I dunno if it is really enforced here or if it really matters. dont wanna ask a cop...lol.

why don't you just ask me whenever we're at the meets?
the TRD CAI that's currently available for the tC is not CARB exempt... and i haven't seen the supposed CARB legal one they somehow got approved..

When you go for your smog, the person doing the smog will see your intake and will check the box for intake on the computer. After that the computer will ask for a CARB number that is registered for the vehicle in the state of California. If the wrong one is entered, the computer will not continue unless the right CARB number is entered. Thats why you must have the right carb sticker on the vehicle. As far as the TRD being smog exempt, thats something that will have to be determined when you go to smog the car. The injen is not smog legal yet,

5 years after it's originally sold.
California is subject to CARB (California Air Resource Board or something) but several other states have used CARB as a standard for their own laws. Check local state laws to see what they have to say or go to your nearest mechanic's shop and ask them what they do for smog testing.

you know... why does cali worry about the parts people put on their cars so much when what they really are worried about is the smog? tbh, it shouldnt matter what parts are there so long as the car passes whatever test it is put to - having all the 'approved' parts mean squat if the car's tune is off and it fails the test.
what are they gonna do next, make a list of state approved parts for electric cars?
