Default Crankshaft issue...help please

Ok...so sadly i have "crankshaft failure" at 60,000 miles. The dealorship wants to screw me sidewayz on a platter with new parts and labor....my question to you wonderful guys on SL is... Can't you have the crankshaft turned and the rods re-machined (probably be better off gettin new rods, since someone said the stock rods are like toothpics, but still curious though)? If so, what would the specs be?

well i havent heard of a constant rod failure on our motors. and the fact the engine can hold 6 psi of boost safely says a lot.

but realistically this is an great opportunity to do some work many of us are waiting to do.

for a bit more and actually maybe the same amount of money (since the stealerships usually charge 50% over the norm.) you may get away with getting some killer work done for less if not a little more than the dealership by asking a machine shop their opinion about what you should do.

a Brian crower stroker kit costs about 3k but you may be able to find it cheaper (comes with crank, rods, pistons and rings). that coupled with lifter springs, cams. would give you a motor you could really boost and beat on.
and while your at it dont forget a flywheel, that would make your new redline much more useful.

but unfortunately with our cars. you need aftermarket management since from what i hear most of the piggybacks suck due to our ecu's trying to have a boxing match with them.

so realistically your goals are what will guide you on this one. if your just going to drive it and than sell it eventually, just buy a motor off crags list when it pops up. or pony up for some b_love at the dealership for a new crank.

but you will have to replace the crank bearings along with the old crank since if it failed they are probably garbage.

hope it helps umm gotta go pee pee

and who is this someone who says that the rods are like toothpicks? they can support over 300 whp. more than twice the stock output from the factory. sounds pretty strong to me.
