Default DC Sport Headers Installed!

This was a very easy install. All it was, was unbolting everything and bolting the new one back on. I can feel an increase in HP and Torque at about the 4K rpm range. Plus, it adds great sound to my exhaust. It came with simple, easy to follow, directions with a couple photos. One thing DC Sports left out though was that you need to take "the ring" from the bottom of the old header, connecting to the exhaust, and place it on the new one. Very important to know because it could drive you crazy trying to figure out what's going wrong. I got lucky and just happen to stumble upon the answer to my problem, which was the ring.

Without that ring, it leaks where the header and the exhaust pipe connect. The exhaust pipe has a bowl shaped connection, and the ring that I'm talking about is flat on one side and rounded on the other for a perfect fit.

Make sense?

I didn't have any problems with the CEL.

Day 3: Still no problem with the CEL.

But...lets talk about this. I didn't reset the ECU. Now, I'm afraid if I do then the CEL will come on. What are your thoughts. I talked to someone on this site and they said, "if it hasn't come on, then it won't come on. Go ahead and reset it!"

Do you think should I reset it?

I also did a search and found someone who had done the same mod, and he said he didn't reset the ECU either, and the CEL hasn't come on.

Am I getting full use of my header without resetting the ECU?

Does anyone know if I have to reset the ECU, or can I just leave it?

Or if I reset the ECU, will the CEL come on?

Their's only one way to tell.....
C'mon, you can do it!!!...... hehe....

Well, from my experince(2G DSM), the CEL doesn't come on right away. It usually come on after 50-100 miles after the upgrade. If it hasn't come on by then, then it shouldn't come on at all, even if you reset your ECU.

Also, do you have a different exhaust on your car?

I would have just done it, but like everyone else, I hate when the CEL comes on! hahaha

Anyway, thanks for the info.

I'm running a TRD exhaust.

From what I've learned so far, the tC's catalytc converter is integrated into the exhaust manifold, correct? So when you install the header you are left without a cat? Is that why you are worrying about your CEL coming on?

If its any help at all, several years ago I installed a header on my '94 MR2, which also has the same exhaust manifold design. My CEL never came on, and my cat's been gone for years now.

For the people who did install a DC header and recieved the CEL , did you also install an exhaust? axelback or catback.

i bet with the DC header and catback exhaust, youll definitely get the CEL....

also if you reset the ESU does it even check if all the parts are functional?

I have the DC headers & K & N CAI with the TRD exhaust, but it sounded like crap (I posted a sound clip a while back. Now I just use my stock exhaust. I've had the CEL problem ever since the install, however, I got myself a ODBII to reset the CEL light. After clearing the CEL, it comes back on after 20-30 miles of city driving or 125-150 of highway driiving.
