I have about 1,500 miles on my 08 tc and several people said I should have changed the oil when it was around 1,000 miles since it's a new car. They said it's to drain all the metal shavings from the engine. Should I change my oil now or should I wait until my car reaches about 5k and go to the dealer for a free oil change?

 

you should change it, and yes since it is new, that is why you change it so soon.

I change my oil every 3000 miles. Then again I am boosted, but its just a rule of thumb I have for all my cars...

 

You can use your free oil changes at any interval

 

some ppl say the oil Toyota put in there was meant for breaking in the car........ dont know if that is accurate but I dont think it's going to hurt anything if you change it at this point. I changed it out at just over 1000 miles also.

i changed after 1500 miles to synthetic then every 5000 there after. change at 3k if you're using reg oil

toyota doesn't use any special oil for breaking in like honda. For a new motor, look for oil that has higher moly content like havoline or cheveron supereme.

 

I wouldn't sweat it. I think you will be fine until 5k. If it was that big of a deal Toyota would recommend it sooner. I would just wait til 5k and change it then.

 

im planning on waiting it out, i jsut hit the 3k mark today on my 08 tc only 2k to go i need to plan a road trip or sometihng

 

honda dosnt either. they just use a mixture of most conventional, part synthetic blend.

 

If you do an UOA for oils that comes out of new Hondas, you will see that its got a very high dose of moly, higher than any off the shelf oil out there. By special oil, I mean oil that you can't just go and buy at Autozone. If I remember right, the oil is made by Mobil specifically for new Hondas.

 

i just broke 4000 on my 08 and havent change my oil yet .... i think ill change it next weekend since i have been driving back and forth into PA lately....

 

i changed the oil on my 08 at 4900 miles. so i can use my second oil change before i hit 10k miles?

 

really doesn't matter, i waited until around 5000 miles for my first oil change, and now i'm just under 52k miles, doing just fine.
