Default is the engine damper kit bad?

I was talking to a guy at work and he was saying that I should not get the engine damper kit because the engine was designed to move. What do you think of this answer?

I broke the bracket on mine with a hard launch. The brackets are garbage on the Weapon R Engine dampers. My friend with an EVO broke his too. So it's not an isolated thing with me. Someone needs to make motor mount inserts for this car.

Im very happy with mine. Dramatic improvement in acceleration, shifting and wheel hop. There is increased noise inside the cabin, but there isnt much to be done about it. I would reccomend it very highly if you want a mod that will noticeably improve the feel of the car.

I agree its not perfect, but as of now its the only option available and it does what its supposed to do.

I got ingalls eng damper prototype on mine. They are still working on it. I dont think the bracket will break because its very beefy. Go to my profile to see the pic. It should be in production soon! And yes.... it is a good product. They just need to do a few minor adjustments before going into the production.

nobody is asking my original question about " is it bad " I need someone that fixes cars to tell me if getting rid of that movement is bad for the engine mounts.

You will be fine adding one. The reason it's the way it is stock is because of the comfort level. Stiffer mounts or engine damper will make the cabin a little rougher and most customers don't want this feature.

What parts would wear out faster?

Get it too stiff and your teeth might wear out faster.

I dont agree about it wearing out parts faster either. It is reducing the overall movement and if anything it should help the rubber mounts last longer since they are getting less movement.

I agree it will add vibration.....but alot less vibration than 2 12" MB Quart subs running 1600 watts in the back hatch That rattles everything loose.

It will reduce wear on exhaust system joints.

Benefits
Greatly improved off-the-line acceleration
Reduced wheel hop
Improved vehicle stability
Reduced shock loads on driveline components
Smoother shifting
Reduced wear on exhaust system joints
Less vibration transmission to the driver compared to polyurethane motor mounts.
Less shock load, compared to torque straps and chains.
Drifting – helps reduce shock loads when wheels gain traction.
Reduces motor movement – decreases the chance of motor parts rubbing against
the hood and frame.

For our customers who have purchased an engine damper, we are aware of the issues with the original brackets, and have been actively working on a reinforced revision of our engine damper brackets. If you are a current owner of one of our dampers, you will be entitled to a new replacement bracket, free of charge, when they are available. Our future kits will also receive the new brackets.

How bad does it affect the cabin noise and vibration?

Sweet because I just bought 1 a week ago. Tired of the charge pipe slamming against the firewall.

Bad.. This is what ingalls eng. is trying to reduce. I am bringing my car to their shop tomorrow to get it tested. I told them it is too loud. So they are going to fix the problem before they mass produce and sell them. Im loving the performance aspect of it though.

I got ingalls eng damper www.ingallseng.com . It is not out yet. I am pretty sure WR ones do make alot o noise also. I read it on other thread. I would wait until WR modify their bracket or wait until ingalls produce theirs. I will let you know how happy I am with ingalls on saturday. If you want to see my damper, click my profile.

yes, it's a good thing for a performance point of view. it will reduce the amount of "twist" the engine sees under acceleration, which leads to wheel hop.

The side effect is that you will feel more vibration, because it is essentially stiffening the engine mounts, so instead of the engine mounts absorbing the vibration, now the vibration is being absorbed in the entire chasis. Coupled with that vibration, is extra noise.

Your car isn't going to blow up using this, nor is there going to be any extra wear and tear that you'd significantly notice (i.e., it isn't going to make your struts wear out in 50K miles instead of 150K).
