1) 2GR-FE The 2GR-FE is a bad arse motor. Just gut a new camry with its drive train and put it in. I guarantee the Camry is fatter than our cars, and I have been spanked by one. Heck they run it in the X-runner. It has got a lot of potential. |

Ok seriously here folks, no one has mentioned the two best possible options. Option A is to import a J-spec 4th gen (out of a ST215 Caldina or ST205 Celica GT4) 3sgte engine. We are talking about a 2.0 toyota engine that comes with a turbo and over 260hp stock. I imported one from Hong Kong a couple of years ago and put it in my 94 Celica GT (It actually bolted directly to the two-wheel drive 5sfe transmission.) Let me tell you that thing was a BEAST! You can get over 400hp out of it without too much effort or coin. Anyways, thats your FWD option.
Your RWD option is something that I think every one of us has wanted to see for a long long time. Scoop up a 2jz-gte engine out of a late 90's Supra and shoehorn that bad-boy in there. The sky's the limit on the hp, that engine is bullet-proof. You can crank over a 1000hp if you've got the fund$, and plus it would avoid the bastardization of putting a 350 in. Anyways, that's my two-cents, good luck with your build. 8) |
I was looking hard at the 2GR-FSE, but it only comes in to the auto trans. The 2GR-FE can be had with the 5 spd man. I'd rather keep the 5spd.

2JZ or bust.
|
2jz......7mgte.....mmmmm oh the possibilities if i had the money
|
I don't know how in the world you are gong to throw a 2JZ in the TC? It is way longer than a 350. You would have to sit in the back seats. lol Never go for the 7M, that motor is a dinosaur, not very reliable for the Iron block aluminum head, and parts are rare now.
|
Honestly my personally choice would be the 3sgte its a ____ing GREAT engine, I had a 91 celica gt that I did a 3sgte swap on, I built the engine up to 400hp easily could have done more but a lovely DD decided to t-bone me, hence the birth of my TC lol

I was looking at the 2JZ today at the junkyard. It really wouldn't be THAT hard to fit in in. Size wise, it'll fit with some cutting.

joys of toyota engines you can tell the block and head buy the engine model number the only difference between a 2jzge and a 2jzgte is the t which represents turbo. They are the exact same block and head. Back in highschool I have a 4banger tacoma that I dropped the lexus 2jzge into and then just bought the aftermarket supra parts for it its a freakin insane engine that can throw out some huge numbers. A guy in town here has a mkIV supra with a 2jzgte pushing 700hp
|
hey garret i vote the 2jz and rwd conversion....lol
|
Hmm... I'll have to think about it. But I mean, the 2GR in my opinion would be an easier fit.

thats kinda what i thought but just wanted to make sure the internals were exactly the same...i didnt really know if the gte had beefier rods or perhaps lower compression ect than the ge.
I still think 3S-GTE and keep it FWD. The 3S is like a mini 2JZ lol. |

iirc, the rods are the same, the pistons on the GE are higher compression, and the GE doesn't have the oil squirters. I think the heads are very similar. The GE still has almost as much potential as the GTE. I've seen an NA-T 2JZ in a GS300 that was pushing over 900rwhp, without too much modification to it.

+1 good info ian. Do it!

Here's a crazy idea: get a 6-bolt 4g63 and drivetrain from a mitsu gsx awd. with the right mods that engine will hold up to 30+ psi of boost and over 1000 awhp.
