Default final drive from 4.2 to 3.73

anyone have and quick easy info to get a new final drive ratio gear set up? i want to change it from the stock 4.2 to a 3.73, after throwin in the turbo and tuning it out first gear is completly useless except for burnout comps. thanks

there has been a lot of talk about this but i'm honestly not sure if anyone has actually done it. I really am not exactly what part you need to swap. What toyota vehicle are you trying to source it from, camry? I mean this may sound stupid, but it may help to tak to a dealership to figure what it is exactly that you need. Also a diagram of each tranny may help. You basically are on your own as there is no "kit" for this. You need to get in touch with some technichians that know the car, which we arent lol. Good luck though man. I'd love to see someone do this.

if money is not a worry for you. You can take you tranny to a pro show and have them take it apart for you. Then they can have a new gear mad for you. its pretty simple, but one of those thing that labor plus one off part can cost you a right leg and a few fingers.

The Last Gen Solara (and Camrys?) has taller gear ratio for 5th and "final drive" on the E351 manual:

3.538
2.045
1.333
0.972
0.731 (0.775:1)
Final 3.944 (4.24)

Maybe you should check that out? Its not the 3.73 you are looking for, but if you found one you could attempt the swap. The TRD same limited slip and clutch used on the tC fits my car.

i came across this post and people need to stay interested in this, we cant go on much longer being limited to 130....

our tranmission is the toyota U type transmission heres a list of cars that use our transmission

* 2001-2007 Highlander (2.4 2WD)
* 2001-2007 RAV4 (2.4 2WD)
* 2002-2004 Camry (4 cyl.)
* 2002-2004 Solara (4 cyl.)
* 2005-2007 SCION tC

our transmission is the U241E toyota U type transmission

now is the solara on this list the one last post said about having a different 5th gear and final drive?

Hmmm...mine is an '05 MY, E351 tranny. I'm pretty sure the 2nd Gen Solara was first introduced in 2004, so it should share my transmission. I could be wrong, but aren't the U-transmissions automatics?

The above thread mentions the scion tC transmission as the E350. Anybody with an owners manual that can corroborate this?
