Default Generic CAI System

Can anyone tell me about this intake system?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-06...ayphotohosting

I just got my TC about a 6 weeks ago and am ready to start adding mods. I am starting with the CAI and am going to add exhaust, supercharger, springs...maybe a few more.

I have spoken to my friend about this, (GTI, chipped, CAI, springs and more) who has been into racing for a while. He says that this pipe, as long as it is the same shape as recognized brands, is just fine, and that the pipe makes barely any difference. This particular one is made of the same material as the injen (minus a powder coat I believe), and in the acution the filter looks red but is actually a stainless steel mesh filter.

Even if I did not want to use the filter, he says I can buy a great, name brand filter, for about 40-50 bucks and save at least a $100 bucks here. If the pipes between this and the name brands are exactly the same dimensions, which they are, what could be the drawbacks? I can't think of any, especially since it is taking in cold air, and heat should not be a factor here...

Opinions?

I was actually going to go this route (I made a thread about the same CAI), but I went ahead and went with the Injen CAI.

My Injen CAI should be coming in soon, so I'll probably type up a review about it or something.

From all the dyno sheets I've read and all of the comments made about the Injen, I'm certain I'll be very satisfied with the CAI.

On the Intake (beacuse it is an ebay no-name) you could have fitment issues as well as not much R&D have gone into these knock off intakes much

You should not get the intake (or any other one that is) because it will not fit the supercharger. Also I would be afraid that either this knock off intake will either not fit right or the part of the tube that the maf connects too may not be the right size and might mess up the tuning of your car. Anyways good luck with your future moding.
