Squall, can this be posted somewhere that EVERYONE can see it easily?? Not this thread but the real answer to why the light comes on.... low fluid, which 98% of the time is due to low pads, 1% due to spent rotors, and 1% due to a fluid leak?? Please, i'm tired of trying to help people that are ALWAYS looking for the most complicated answer.

And to KATEK, your a "mechanic" on the side lol. I'm sure you are Aren't we all? I'm not even gonna respond to the "Go back to school because you're from Da Burgh" comments because your ignorance, and the fact that you can't complete a logical sentence, makes me feel like i'm talking to a wall... that talks back. I'm glad your BF warned you about people like this, but guess what, in this case, you are that person that he is talking about.

And like i said before and i quote, and enlarge so that you don't miss it this time....

"I'm wrong... tear apart your whole console looking for the short, or other "electrical" problem. And when you find it, post it up with pics. But in the meantime while your looking for the electrical problem, that part could take a while, change your pads and see if the electrical problem MAGICALLY fixes itself."

PEACE I'M OUT!

And just to put the icing on the cake, page 95 in the tC manual, the WHOLE page, is dedicated to the light coming on when it shouldn't, and guess what the problem is.... I'll let you look it up. And then say "I told you so"

I agree, i honestly don't blame the students though, it's not their fault. It's just when they use their credentials as leverage, and then end up being wrong, that angers me. And then try to make it personal about how stupid the other person is, which in my defense i have a LOT to say, but i know when to hold em' and when to fold em'. So i'll just keep my mouth shut this time.

I merely stated what is written in the owners manual and then sited it (again, ALL of page 95 in the tC manual). Hope everyone accepts it now.

I agree the students are not to blame,it's these schools that charge a arm and a leg to go to, and then they have these still wet behind the ears, inexperienced instructors that mis-inform the students! There are some very good instructors don't get me wrong, but they are out numbered cause these schools are hiring people off the floor that just want to get out of turning wrenches and make more money, reguardless of their experience and knowledge!

Default hand brake/ e- brake

Wow...my thread created so much anamosity towards others....well just to clarify for my particular situation...my brake light came on warning me that I had low brake pads or fluid. I took my car to a local firestone and recieved a free brake check and the light was correct, i was running extremely low on my brake pads. AFTER i fixed the problem (replaced the brake pads) the light never came on again. Hope this helps you guys.

Wow, what a surprise!!! And someone from the Burgh was right??? No that can't be, can it?? This has only been posted like a million times and the same people keep giving these stupid answers when it is simple. But what do we know, we are from the Burgh, right. SO Katek4, where are the pics and what answer do you have for this guy now, cause it couldn't be the brake pads, right???

Just to clear things up, some cars have different ways of monitoring the brake pads. Some go by brake fluid, which generally isn't a very accurate way (tC does this I believe) and other actually have sensors built into the brake pads.

This is a brake pad for a Jetta...an economy car, a vehicle which some thought was impossible to be equipped with.

This makes a lot of sense, I would go by both because when getting a new tC, the brake pads are 100% with perfect level brake fluid. When the brake pads are low, the more fluid is putting in the cylinder of the caliper that hydraulically pushes the pads which creates low brake fluid. Also brake fluid have a sensor to monitor the level and tells you a warning. Best to check the pads first then the brake fluid. Hope I made this clear enough to understand.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Right now, my car has 54k miles on it and my brake lights keep coming on when I accelerate in 1st and 2nd gear, sometimes on the 3rd gear. I believe it time for me to change my brake pads. What ya think about the EBC green stuff or red stuff pads? anybody have this kind of pads? if so, would you like to share your experience cuz I would like to know. Thanks

^^ yes.. that is exactly why the brake fluid level drops.. thus causing the light to turn on.. along with the changing gears.. the fluid swishing around.. yeah.. it'll flash that brake light on/off..

as far as pads, i've got some centric posi-quiets i purchased from stoptech... recommended to me by Erik there (a.k.a. The_Instigator) that owned a tC back then and still very much an automobile enthusiast.. as well as a person i trust very much on knowledge about brakes...

good cheap price, great OEM replacement.. and performs well.

whgat it is is that the brake fluid is low.

the sensor is being messed up because the fluid is to low.

just fill it up.
mine only occured when my engine was cold. after warming up the light woulod go off

That's what you DON'T want to do (add fluid) because now if the low fluid was caused by pad wear you loose the indicator that warns you that you need to replace the pads and you risk damage to the rotors. You should be checking your pads and replacing them if worn which is the most likely problem.

Plus if you add fluid and then get the pads replaced, when they push the pistons back in, the fluid overflows all over the place if they don't drain some out first.
