Default Header/Exhaust

ok i here that when you put a header and exhaust together it makes a weird noise why is that? I was looking into the TRD or the INJEN exhaust any ideas i like them both. also for a header i was looking into the MMW> what exhaust would go good and not make that noise with the MMW header any idea's?

With any aftermarket header, you're going to get rasp. Best is to have a custom midpipe added with a highflow cat and as big of a resonator as you can fit. That'll cut it down a little.

rasp is just noise from increased air flow. you eliminated the primary cat when you took off the headers. the resonator and high flow cat usually have to be welded on.

Rasp is pretty much the high pitched buzzing bee sound that most Hondas with $20 AutoZone mufflers make. And unfortunately, most aftermarket headers create this sound with the tC.

You can hear it in this video when he's revving:

Most exhaust shops should be able to do a midpipe for you that should bolt on to both ends - the spipe and the trd exhaust. But just be absolutely clear with them to not cut anything new... except maybe cut the OEM midpipe and weld in a new cat and resonator. I'd say put the parts on first and see what it sounds like and then decide if you want to replace the midpipe.

is that a hard job to do to weld it on? my uncle is a mechanic so im sure he can do it but well they eliminate the rasp? Also how noticeable is the rasp when you don't have the res or high flow cat does it make the car sound like crap? or its not that noticeable?

I've heard good things about the precision muffler axleback takin care of the rasp...i'm actually in the market for one right now...I have the TRD right now with header back and i think it sounds good sometimes but theres too many spots where its really raspy and i dont like it

We have two versions of the axle back for the tC to take care of Rasp. We have the normal axle back and the 7inch round axle back which is bigger and takes down the rasp a lot more. It is the same price too.

I checked out the PM site and saw the video. I take it that clip has an intake and MMW header installed with the 7in axleback.

What gains did you get w/ your normal axle back compared w/ the 7in version? I know the gains are little for an axle back but I'm wondering between the two. Is there a sound clip with just your normal axleback installed? Just worried that the larger muffler would have a more restrictive effect thus robbing a bit of power. I'm definately going to be picking one of those systems very soon once I get some answers though!

The MMW with short ram intake and our axle back alone.(no other mods) is a +25HP increase. There is no decrease in power between the two.
