Default Header & Exhaust Suggestions.

I am planning my next purchase for my '10 TC. I don't think i'll ever go the turbo route, so I think Headers and an Exhaust will be a good direction for me to go.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good set of headers and exhaust?

I don't like the "rice rocket" sound of many forms of exhaust, I definitely prefer a deep, throaty sound.

Also my car is still under warranty, will headers and exhaust void that? Are there any headers/exhaust which are not legal in CA? (I'm going into the CHP and have to make sure everything on my car is 100% legal).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH, this is an extremely common question!

But I will start you off in the right direction. If you ad a header you will get rasp, so add a GOOD and LONG resonator. Most headers for the tC are 4-1, which is a major cause of rasp. There are a few (maybe one or two) that are a 4-2-1 design. These will also give you more of a mid range power gain instead of the high range by that of a 4-1.

Research the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT. It states you can only be denied the warranty if the part you installed is the cause of the warranty claim.

No header offered for the tC is street legal, they all remove a catalytic converter.

Oh well so much for that. I have to keep the car street legal.

Thanks for the response.

And yeah, I have been searching quite a bit, but have a hard time understanding a lot of the in depth discussions. It gets pretty technical.

You can still get a catback and be completely legal. That will give you a nice exhaust tone and free up some power.

So a catback and exhaust?

How much gain (on average) would that give?

I read that catback is the tubing from the catalytic converter, but I'm unsure as to the point behind it. Is it simply required on custom exhaust to pass emissions, or does it actually increase power somehow?

A catback is exactly that, the exhaust system from the catalytic converter to the end point of the exhaust, the tip. There are also axle back systems that start at the axle and end at the tail pipe.

Power increase, from what you'll notice it won't be a whole bunch. No bolt on's alone will ever give you an enormous amount of power. What it does is basically free's up power by getting rid of restrictive piping in the stock system. To pass emissions you only need the 2 cat's on the vehicle. The purpose of the muffler is to quite the system only.
