I was wondering if there was any disadvantage to not having the heatshield over the headers. Looking at it, it doesn't look like it could melt anything else around it, only thing I was concerned about was the lining on the hood :/ Aftermarket headers don't come with the heat shield and I think it looks cooler under the hood without one so I was just wondering, thanks for your help

 

it will make the engine bay a little warmer, kinda causing more heat soak, but it isn't too bad...i believe

 

your not going to hurt anything. i've run w/o a heatshield for many months now w/ my mmw header and have had zero heat related issues.

 

Just take it off, and heat spray paint the header. Just an Idea.

 

or jethot it if your that concerned

 

It's so you don't burn yourself when you work on the engine and to keep things from getting on it and catching on fire!!

i would say leave it alone if your not going to do anything about it. the stock header is ugly and your better off painting the heat shield itself.

 

^yea i agree. just leave it on unless your getting an aftermarket header in which case you'll have to get rid of it anyway

 

if you ever saw ur stock header, u'll understand why the heatshield is 100% better. besides.. u'd have to take out ur 02 sensor to get hte heatshield off anyways.. and we all know how annoying that can be...

 

taking off the heat shield to pretend you have aftermarket headers on is incredibly lame.

 

Leave it on. You will take it off and then one day you will need it and it will be no where to be found. Also what happens when you take out the primary 02 and it cross threads now you are out 200+ for no reason.
