I ordered an alphawerks header and its arriving tommorow just wondering if anyone has any advice or pointers to offer concerning the install? any replys would really be apreciated. Im talking about tools i will need and any trouble you guys might have run into with your install.

The install covers a DC Header. But you get the idea.

 

Ive heard its a good idea to wear gloves when handling the header and wipe it down with brake cleaner to remove the grease before you start it. The grease and oil will leave marks on the stainless that are almost impossible to remove later.

 

yes it is good to clean it
personally i like the blueing and gold colors so it doesnt bother me


if you're putting this on an automatic beware the brackets are going to ____ you off pretty bad. an angled ratchet will be your friend.

Dont know what differences there are when doing it on an auto or manual but all I know is the alternator sorta gets in the way on that left nut.

 

I was talking about fingerprints and grease..not the coloration from the heat.

 

Yeah nobody wants a big PERMANENT thumb print on the face of the header when youre trying to show it off. Wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol and then rub it down with a soft dry cloth to take off any residue left over. Then start her up! The risk of permanent printing will exist as long as the header is on your car so just never touch it at all and if you do wipe that sucker before you ruin everything!!!

 

where do you think the blue'ing comes from? it's from the shat thats on the header (i.e. grease from your hands)

 

Ummmm no. Thats what stainless does when it gets hot. It will change to shades of gold, blue and purple depending on the heat it gets. Take a look at motorcycle pipes...very common in stainless parts.

 

um yeah... you mean like this bike thats in my driveway?



stainless turns gold when it heats not blue. the blue comes from something on the stainless where its not clean. it also has to hit a certain temperature (much easier for the car than the bike) before it starts changing that color.

 

p.s. White Vinegar with a wash cloth while the pipes are still warm will remove the blue and return it to the gold color....


or you could buy blue job polish
