Default Header installed..no antifouler..no o2 sim..no CEL?

Hey I have installed my alphawerks header several days ago and I have ran a few hundred miles..I haven't installed the o2 sim yet because there is no CEL right now...Will the CEL defintely turn on sooner or later? I was just wondering if there are others out there that installed a header without running o2 sim or antifouler and are CEL free. If so, how long?

Hey,

Once the engine completes enough cycles and pulls enough samples giving the ecu the parameters it needs to give the CEL. So yeah it is only a matter of time. But that is what the processor is for!

I'd say let it run and see. The response above was dead on. The ECUs in todays cars take several "trips" before setting and clearing certain codes. If it never appears, sell the o2 sim to someone who needs it

After how many miles did you get the CEL?

I just got my tC with the Alphawerks header pre-installed from the dealer. They told me I shouldn't get the CEL, but I'm not sure which method they used to avoid that.

about 200 miles...did you get it in writing that it won't throw a CEL? ..so they won't charge you for diagnosis and what not later on..

Bypassing the CEL like that with O2 sims and antifoulers makes me wonder. Is the car gonna pass smog later on?

As none of the headers are CARB approved, I'd guess no. Hold on to you stock parts, folks-- and I mean everybody. Just because you live in some backwater state that doesn't test now, doesn't mean they won't be testing by 2010.

Man, you got me thinking...I'll still be paying for the car by then. I guess I could go by the dealer and ask for the stock one, or at least they should help me deal with the problem if things change by then.

That's what's scaring me. I live in Cali no less and the day when I get my tC is fast approaching. Kind of sucks thinking I won't be able to mod it with things like headers/intake without smog coming to rape me in the butt.

Do these headers make a dumb raspy noise and make the car sound like poo in the higher rpms? I have the trd exhaust and i wanna make sure everything sounds good and works correctly in my favor.

what is this antifouler and why would it stop the CEL
even though it stops it would it harm the engine in any way?
