Header for the tC?
Hey everyone,
The company I am Vice President of, Draxas, is considering developing a header for the new Scion tC. I know this 2.4L engine also comes in the Camry. I wanted to know if there currently are any headers on the market for the 2.4L engine in the Camry.
We currently have a header for the 2.3L Mazda6, Mazda3, and Focus, but we want to expand into new markets. We feel the Toyota 2.4L engine would benefit from one of our headers.
If anyone has any links to a header currently out for the 2.4L engine, please post them here. You can also email me at:
Nikolas@Draxas.com
We will need to have a donor car come into the shop (Glendale, CA) for R&D purposes, so if you will be buying a tC or if you are a dealer, and are interested in helping us with the development of our header/exhaust, please contact me. We are very eager to get started on this project ASAP.
Happy Motoring!

all the headers I've seen (which has been very few) for a 2.4L toyota engine have been custom fabricated. However it'll be great to have a company come in and ****** up some of the aftermarket support forr the TC.
I'll pretty much have to get everything I want custom fabricated or modified to fit my timetable of a full running turbo charged set up before November.

trd i know has a prototype header for the tC and should be released at the same time with the s/c. it all depends if corporate gives the green light.
judging the faith of board members regarding trd products i don't know if they should come out with one.
a performance header should give the tC a good bump in power cause i have feeling the stock intake/header/exhaust system is very restrictive judging by the 3hp difference between the camry and tC. hopefully someone lends you their car to r&d the header. i know that 7th gen celica owners gave up their car for a free header for a couple weeks.

TRD is a good company. its also good to have a wide selection of parts you want/need. some companies might have more power and some might have good quality and some might have both power and quality.

Our header fabricator/designer has over 30 years of experience designing and fabricating exhaust manifolds. He has made headers for Porsche 944s, Ford 289's, Mazda 2.3L 4 cylinders, and 3.0L V6 engines. The make of the engines doesnt have much of a play on how the header is designed. It takes a good undesterstanding of what works well on internal combustion engines, (tube lengths and diameters, collector styles and outlet sizes, etc).
Once we get our hands on a stock exhaust manifold, we will inspect it for factory inneficiencies, and we will point these out on our website. I have a pretty good idea of what the header will look like already, its the small details that will be worked out once we begin our work.
We will of course dyno test our designs and that information will also be posted on our website.

I just wanted to bring this back up to the top seeing that traffic has picked up now that the Scion tC is beginning to show up at dealers.
I have already had one person contact me about helping us with product development. If you will be buying a Scion tC or you work at a dealership who wants to help us out with a test car, please contact me.
We plan to offer both a header and a higher flowing exhaust for the tC.

Draxas_VP I have one question thats been buggin me since I saw the tC. What are you going to do about that huge eye sore of a thermal reacter on the manifold? It causes the motor to run regularly and has 2 O2 sensors on it, which is also for smog. Wouldn't messin with the thermal reactor mass with the computer and cause a check engine light on? This design has been in the camery and the old celica motors. Removing the thermal reactor will cause the check engine light to come on, cause the motor to run rich and cause a rough idle. So, this is only to inquire how is a header going to be built? I have gone back and forth on this subject and still go back to "it can't be done legally."
Nismo makes a header which has a pre-cat built in for the Sentra SE-R / Spec V. It costs a fortune (like $800), but that's what you need to pass emissions and have a header on that car. It is possible to design one. The question is, will it be priced so that anyone will buy it.

It might be that the first header we release WONT be street legal. We sell a header for the 2.3L Focus that is classified as a Race Header. The Focus has a HUGE catalytic converter built into the stock manifold as well.
We could design a higher flowing manifold for the tC that has a high flow cat built into it, but the price will go up.
We have a way around the Check Engine Light situation and can include instructions on how to prevent the CEL from coming on, even after installing a Race Header.
As soon as I have the chance to take some close looks at a tC and the stock manifold, I will be able to shed some more light on the matter.
