HELP I Need more info for CAI
I plan on buying one soon but dont want to void any warrenty do i have to stay with TRD???The CAI that sells seems to give more hps is this true????and has more safty options???
and also...the TRD, AKA rebadged AEM CAI, does not give the most hp...not that it makes that much difference because it's only a difference of 2 hp...but...to clarify to warranty voiding question...
NOTHING will VOID your warranty...but if ANY aftermarket part...even TRD badged aftermarket parts...cause a failure in equipment or the car to run...it is not covered! If you get hydrolocked with your TRD CAI...guess what...YOU are buying the new engine...not the dealer

You dont have to stay with TRD, matter of fact, i think you will find that most ppl perfer something else besides it, like AEM, or injen. Also, as far as safety features go, the biggest thing will be suckin up water, and by which you can prevent with a bypass valve, but thats up to you to decided whether or not you will really need it.
A CAI does not void warranty, and supposedly Injen is pushing the most HP+ and then the Fujita F5
I honestly don't think you need a bypass valve, but it really depends on where you live. It's only an extra $20 at TRDsparks if you get the Injen + AEM bypass valve package. If you do it, I guess it could save you lots of money in the long run if water does get in your CAI.
I think I'm going to be ordering mines soon, but really want to wait until they get something CARB legal out to avoid later problems with smog checks and ish, but if I were to get one I would lean towards Injen cause of the little added HP and it can interchange into a short ram.
I have friends who are more into cars then I am and they said CAI are mostly for sound, you get little HP gain and that making your own out of PVC pipes can yield almost the same as any name brand, though I wouldn't recommend it...... I remember the days where I zipped tied the air filter and got rid of the airbox.....

also TRD claims that the CAI is for offroad use only. so that might cause some problems when u have a problem onroad when according to them thats not what its designed for, even though im pretty sure it is.
I have brought my tc to the dealership with my aem cai and they have never given me grief over it. Also like the other guys said, the bypass valve is kind of a waste of money unless you literally drive through a two or three foot deep puddle...
I beg to differ...there's a guy on here that hydrolocked with just a 6in puddle, water was just at the side skirt. It all just depends on how the water is getting to it and how much. The bypass valve is useless as the above poster stated since it is really only going to work when the filter is completly submerged, even then people have had issues with it not really working even then.
it is something like 6 tablespoons of water is all it really takes to destroy an engine if it all is sucked up. the bypass only kicks in if the entire filter is submerged which rarely happens. If you go through a puddle, water could splash up into the piping and not trip the bypass filter= no bueno...
Dude, just get a short ram, it'll save all your problems haha, but if you really want to go cai, just get the bypass and hope for the bes and try to avoid puddle and going out on rainy days haha, but imo just go with Injen and use the cai w/ the bypass when its not the rainy season, but when it is, just take some time and change it from cai to sri
