ok so my auto tranny is shot.. i have no 3rd gear.. i cant even drive in D.. my rental car i had to take back today so im waiting on my built tranny to get here but i have to go to work.. is it bad to put it in 2nd and drive like 40 mph at 3-4k rpm ?

i have to drive about 3 miles.

 

isn't bad for the car or anything, just going to get awful gas mileage is all.

 

arite ill try and stay out of boost as much as possible .. its so loud to driving at like 4k rpm.. kinda annoying and everyones flying past me lol

 

I'm having problems with my trans too. 3rd gear. I'm on my second one and I have 47k miles. Garbage!

 

and ur not even boosted!? somethings wrong there lol

 

unless there is some evidence of blatent driver abuse (like doing neutral drops or shifting the gear selector like it is a manual transmission) your still well within your 5 year/60k mile powertrain warrranty,which will cover the replacement/repair of this.

 

don't drive your car in 2 for a good distance because you will over heat your tranny and possibly mess up your turbo since you will stay in boost the whole time without releasing it even if you let go of your gas pedal because your rpm won't change at all until you throw it in neutral and then the problem will end up being worst, just wait until you get your new tranny and hopefully you have been running it with a tranny cooler since you went turbo.

 

yes our trannys are garbage because a friend's got shot as well and he drives like a grandma. i think mine will probably go out by the time i hit 40k or so because i have taken it drag racing at the 1/8th track a few times and i like taking it up to the canyons as well just for fun...i still wish i had gotten manual

 

Not a problem... my buddy was in your shoes way back when... he drove like that for 3 months before he fixed his tranny.

 

sounds like someone has been abusing the auto. Toyota ever hears you have raced the car, forget that powertrain warranty! they rank that as "abuse"
