Question How can I make an '08 tC faster than an '04 RX8?

In a few days I'm finally going to be getting a manual '08 tC with 50,000 miles on it, and will have an extra $3750 dollars left over to spend on it.

Coincidentally my friend is also finally getting his "new" car this week, a manual '04 RX8 with 80,000 miles on it.

Now for about the past 2 months, all I've been hearing is about how much faster his car is than mine, so this weekend we are heading to "settle it".

Obviously the RX8 has more horsepower, RWD, etc. but I know from experience that the rotary engine in the RX8 isn't the best and tends to degrade (especially after 80,000 miles) so I'd imagine its not too horribly in his favor.

Basically I just want some opinions on the best parts/combination of parts to increase my overall power. I'd rather not have to deal with installing a supercharger or turbo, but if that's the only way, then so be it.

Some form of forced induction is your only way, unless he really sucks at driving. Plus for $3700 you can get pretty good turbo set-up.

^^ That. Get boost and smoke him. We have boosted tC's out here that blow the doors off of built subbies and RX's. You def won't have it built in time for next weekend though unless your shop has everything in stock and kicks ___. But get boosted and enjoy

Used turbo in the PPC, exhuast and tune. 250-300whp and you can smoke him on the track.

Since you're getting the car this week, and "racing" on the weekend to settle it, might as well save the money to buy him lunch after he beats you. No way you could get a turbo on before the "big race"

You can beat him by this weekend easy - 50 shot Pickup a universal wet nitrous kit for about $500-600 and throw in a 50 shot lol - I had a friend with an I/H/E tc that kept up with a stock RX8 very nicely. I can almost say for certain, with a decent driver in both cars, the tc with a 50 shot would win.

If you guys are not racing at the track then it's best to leave it Need for Speed games. It's much safer and you won't have to spend so much money on gas!

Remove his motor. I was gonna say slash his tires but that might just make it a fair fight. Or make it an endurance race. Surely that 13MPG rotard will have to stop for gas enough you can pull away.

Yes, clearly seeing which one is faster means challenge him to an endurance race.

It's a solution to win a race against an RX-8 in a stock tC.

The RX8 is a better, faster car. Simple as that.

Your car has 50k miles on it. Think twice before tweaking the motor.

Go to an autocross & learn how to drive. I regularly beat much faster cars in my mostly-stock tC, inclucing Evo's, Hemi Chargers, and occasionally an RX8. Legally.

Putting a turbo on your car will make it fast in a straight line. You might as well spend your 3 grand & buy an old 5.0 Mustang & beat the RX8 with that.

true, but never suggest nitrous to someone that wants quick power on the spot to beat someone in a week. Thats how people ruin their cars with the juice.

Get a turbo kit off here, get it tuned. TAKE YOUR TIME. Rushing = disaster. This is an economy car, not a race car. If you want to make it into a race car it will cost lots of time and money.

i/h/e sould do you just fine. Rx-8 are SLOW! If your a good driver you should be fine. I smack up on them all day. But I am also i/h/e and ran 14.7 in 1/4 mile on ____ ___ tires. When most people i/h/e are still in the mid/deep 15's. So learn your can and you should be fine.

Wow, 14.7 is moving out for just I/H/E and slicks. Do you have higher compression pistons or have any work done to your engine head? I have an auto 07 tC and just went to the track last week and my best time was 16.0. That drive by wire is killing my launches and ET's because my car hesitates when I punch it off the line so I picked up the Weapon-R ETC so hopefully that should help all around with 60 foot, 1/8th & 1/4 ET's.
